Introduction and Representative Duties

POSITION OVERVIEW
This position is part of a consolidated Systems Technology Division and reports to a Systems Technology Division Manager. The incumbent provides specialized technical support for judicial staff, Clerk's Office, U.S. Probation, and U.S. Pretrial Services units located throughout the District of Arizona in the areas of local and wide area network hardware, operating systems, and software.
The Systems Technology Division is responsible for the computer systems, telecommunications infrastructure, and new technology for the District of Arizona, encompassing four locations and approximately 600 users in the Clerk's Office, U.S. Probation, U.S. Pretrial Services, and judges' staff. Applications and data are housed on Microsoft Windows and Linux servers. VMWare is utilized for virtualization of internal Windows server instances which reside on a Storage Area Network. Systems Technology provides support for large-scale implementations of IP-based voice telephony and video teleconferencing and supports IP-connected courtroom and conference room digital audio-visual technologies.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
  • Assist with network systems, including file server and user account administration, backup management, disaster recovery and connectivity problem solving.
  • Coordinate administration of user accounts, permissions, and policies applied via Active Directory.
  • Perform systems administration tasks, including server configuration, group policy administration and user account administration.
  • Participates in the creation, maintenance, and enhancement of data backup and recovery procedures and practices including network performance, security, end point protection, web usage/monitoring, design and acquisition of servers, switches, and other related components.
  • Provide assistance with server troubleshooting and triage during service failure scenarios and participate in detailed investigations to determine root cause and corrective actions.
  • Ensure effective and efficient server maintenance and operations workflow and practices to help improve availability and performance of systems and dependent environments. Perform system start-up and shut down procedures.
  • Administer systems mangement appliances to deploy agents, scripts, patching, and operating system images for endpoints.
  • Analyze and research procurement needs relating to the purchase of new server hardware and dependent accessories including software utilities and backup tapes.
  • Assists with automated management systems for development and deployment of system images. Develop and maintain current and working standardized images.
  • Diagnose hardware and custom off-the-shelf software problems and replace defective components or design software fixes.
  • Assist with technical support and maintenance of telephone systems, courtroom technology and audio/visual systems, as required.
  • Prepare written procedures for users and Systems staff. Provide training on the use and support of computer systems and programs.
  • Create and maintain systems documentation.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Occupational Information

QUALIFICATIONS
To qualify for this position, the applicant must have two years specialized experience, including at least one year equivalent to work at the next lower level (CL 25).
Specialized experience is progressively responsible experience that is in, or closely related to, the work of the position that has provided the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This includes progressively responsible experience related to the technical aspects of network related applications, terminology and methodology including project assignments that involved network related maintenance and technical support. This position requires the ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds, and the physical mobility to access equipment wherever it may be positioned (e.g., under desks, on racks, etc.). Strong troubleshooting abilities and customer service skills are mandatory. Travel, including overnight travel, is required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to those candidates who possess significant operational and technical experience relative to the installation, configuration, and support of Windows Server operating systems (extensive experience with Windows Server 2016 and above preferred), Microsoft Active Directory (including administration of group policies, DNS and DHCP services), and Windows 10/11 desktop operating systems; enterprise administration/management and deployment utilities (such as KACE 1000, KACE 2000, PowerShell and VB Scripting); VMware vCenter/ESXi virtualization; and desktop virtualization products. Preference will also be given to those candidates who have extensive knowledge and experience implementing, managing, and supporting networking hardware, topologies, and protocols including Cisco iOS. Experience implementing and supporting physical server hardware, storage area networks, and data backup devices and supporting software is also desired.
Preference will also be given to candidates whose work experience provides evidence of strong customer service skills; the ability to work cooperatively with clients, team members, and managers; the ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment; and the ability to follow an assigned project through to completion. A bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college is also preferred.
