Duties
As a Budget Analyst, You Will
  • Perform budget analysis for exceptionally large and complex programs which may include formulation, justification, presentation, and/or execution. Through analysis of customer programs, the incumbent also provides advice, guidance, recommendations, and expertise in support of customer decision-making.
  • Manage and analyze data containing vital budget information which serves as input for generating summary reports and facilitating fact-finding.
  • Advise stakeholders on the status and availability of funds in different budget accounts and all aspects of the budget execution process which apply to their programs, as appropriate.
  • Analyze budget and accounting transactions recorded in the financial system by reviewing financial system reports to ensure accurate posting to the budgetary USSGL accounts. Provide guidance and training to the budget analysts and technicians as needed.

  • A one-year probationary period may be required.
  • Must successfully complete a background investigation. Periodic reinvestigation is required no later than five years after selection and at least every succeeding five years.
  • Public Trust - Background Investigation will be required.
  • Obtain and use a Government-issued charge card for business-related travel.
  • This position requires that the successful candidate undergo personnel vetting, which includes a background investigation and enrollment upon onboarding into "Continuous Vetting." Enrollment in Continuous Vetting will result in automated record checks being conducted throughout one's employment with Treasury. The successful candidate will also be enrolled into FBI's Rap Back service, which will allow Treasury to receive notification from the FBI of criminal matters (e.g., arrests, charges, convictions) involving enrolled individuals in near real-time. QualificationsYou must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/day/year, and indicate number of hours worked per week on your résumé.
Specialized experience: For the GS-13, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as the following:
  • Experience performing a review and analysis of budget information; AND
  • Experience independently researching budget related issues and providing proposed solutions or resolutions.
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
For the GS-13, you must have been at the GS-12 level for 52 weeks.
