Duties

These positions are located in Cape Cod National Seashore, in the Visitor and Resource Protection Division.

The incumbent is responsible for safely operating a gasoline powered passenger tram and trailer(s) capable of transporting up to 55 passengers per trip from remote parking areas to Cape Cod National Seashore beaches.

Tram operators need to be able to work without more than normal supervision and be able to coordinate tram operations with other drivers.

The tram operation transports hundreds of park visitors to the beach each shift and operators need to be able to function appropriately and be able to communicate effectively in stressful and emergency situations should they arise.

65%).Other duties include providing visitor orientation and information on tram schedules and operations; providing visitors with a safety briefing regarding riding on, loading, and unloading the trams;

providing visitors with beach and surf condition information, and providing visitors with information regarding park activities and resources.

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
  • Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
  • You will be required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment. In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
  • You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required.

You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.

  • You must possess and maintain a current Class B (or higher) Commercial Driver's License with passenger and air brake endorsements.
  • You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
  • You will be required to work weekends and holidays.
  • Park housing may be available.
  • Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and : (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school;
  • or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education;

or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.

Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sectors. Applicants must be physically fit and, as required in Office of Personnel Management Qualifications Handbook X-118C, must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the elements listed in Section 25 of the Online Occupational Questionnaire to perform the duties of the position at the level for which they are applying.

A specific length of time and experience is not required; however, you must be able to demonstrate the rough experience shown in your written application, that you possess sufficient knowledge, skill and ability to perform the duties of the position without more than normal supervision.

Examples of experience for this position include : Experience and / or vocational training / apprenticeship in the operation of gasoline or diesel-powered vehicles.

Required to have a Class B (or higher) CDL with an air brake endorsement and special endorsement for vehicles designed to transport 16 or more passengers.

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. You must meet level 2 on the screen out factor / element and an average of level 2 on all factors / elements.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors :
