Duties

The primary purpose of the position is to perform recurring building and / or utility maintenance and operation duties and to assist journeymen and other higher-graded workers.

Incumbent utilizes knowledge and skills in several trades and crafts.

As a Maintenance Worker you will :

Working largely without direct supervision, operates and performs minor maintenance on a variety of vehicles such as front- end loader, 5-ton dump truck, hot oil distributor, road brooms, street sweepers, asphalt lay down machine, etc.

Operates equipment on flat or rolling terrain, construction sites, wet and / or snowy conditions.

Performs duties such as plowing snow, spreading road material, hauling materials to job site, loading material on dump truck, removing rockslides, clearing sides of roads, removing hazardous trees, and compacting asphalt etc.

Perform functions such as painting, plumbing; trails and grounds work; trash and debris clean-up.

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
  • Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
  • You will be required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment. In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
  • You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required.

You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.

You must possess and maintain a current Class B Type (or higher) Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with an Airbrake Endorsement (Screen Out).

You must provide a copy of your CDL License with your application materials, or you will not be considered.

  • You may be required to complete training and operate a four-wheel drive vehicle.
  • You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
  • You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
  • This position is designated Emergency Essential.
  • You must be able to lift 75 lbs.
  • If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old.

Qualifications

Applicants must be physically fit and must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the elements listed in the Online Occupational Questionnaire to perform the duties of the position at the level for which they are applying.

A specific length of time and experience is not required; however, you must be able to demonstrate the rough experience shown in your written application, that you possess sufficient knowledge, skill and ability to perform the duties of the position without more than normal supervision.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors :

  • Ability to Do the Work of the Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT)
  • Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation Repair, etc
  • Technical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic)
  • Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprints reading)
  • Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment.
  • Knowledge of materials.
  • Use of Measurements
