Duties
Provide Bureau-wide Automatic Data Processing support for SENTRY and all mainframe applications. This involves the development, implementation, modification, maintenance and management of database management system software, data communications system software, IBM-compatible mainframe operating systems software, Microsoft NT server network operating system software, Microsoft SNA server software, mainframe and network computer security systems and associated software.
Responsible for establishing national policy and procedures for the use of the data base management system (IDMS) and the telecommunications system (INTERCOMM) both of which are used by the Bureau of Prisons SENTRY system.
Responsible for data base integrity, backup and recovery, installation of new releases of system software, migration of new modules to the data base, and reviewing the test results of new application programs to ensure successful migration to the production environment.
Responsible for the installation of new releases and maintenance of INTERCOMM, a complex telecommunications system used to manage the SENTRY network and the SENTRY data base management system (IDMS).

You must have IT related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below:

AND
Specialized Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience at the next lower level in federal government. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular qualifications to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Such experience is typically gained in the IT field or through the performance of work where the primary concern is IT.
Some examples of this qualifying experience are:
Experience serving as a DB2 DBA on a z/OS Mainframe on call 24x7 Operational Production environment, with proficiency in database creation, integrity, maintenance, backup and recovery, performance tuning and problem resolution.
Experience managing and maintaining IBM Content Manager on a Production z/OS Mainframe. Maintenance includes that of the underlying DB2 database housing the unstructured data and the definition of new attributes used by applications interfacing with Content Manager to store unstructured data/meta-data.
Experience serving as a WebSphere Administrator on a z/OS Production Mainframe environment. Duties include deploying application, making configurations changes and resolving performance problems.
AND
Selective Placement Factor:
Applicants applying for this position MUST also possess the following Selective Factor. In the event that you do not possess the Selective Factor, you will be found ineligible for the position.
  • Applicant must have a minimum of 5-years of experience with DB2, IBM Content Manager and WebSphere on a z/OS Mainframe platform.
NOTE: All applicants MUST clearly address the Selective Factor in their resume.
If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time (such as the number of hours worked per week) spent in activities.

Initial appointment to a supervisory/managerial position requires a one-year probationary period.

SALARY RANGE:
Salary reflected on this vacancy announcement is for the “Rest of the U.S.”; however, the selectee’s salary may be higher based on the worksite/duty station of the appointee. See Salary Tables for your location. Salary will be determined upon approval of a remote work agreement.

Required Documents
