U.S. Coast Guard is Hiring an Information Technology Cybersecurity Specialist , GS-2210-12 Near Virginia, VA

Duties

As an Information Technology Cybersecurity Specialist within the USCG Atlantic Area (LANTAREA), Maritime Intelligence Fusion Center Atlantic (MIFC LANT), Intelligence Support Division (ISD), this position serves as the Information Technology Cybersecurity Specialist working in the development, implementation and management of Cybersecurity programs, policies and documentation for classified information processing systems.

Being a CG civilian makes you a valuable member of the CG team. Typical work assignments include:

  • Acting as a focal point and command advisor for all Information Assurance (IA) matters, in compliance with governing directives and instructions.
  • Investigating computer security incidents for cause and recommends the most effective corrective actions.
  • Developing systems security policy, guidelines, and procedures for systems processing multiple applications that require differing, and often conflicting, security controls, accessed by a large distribution user community.
  • Preparing and maintaining all Network Topology Diagrams, IP worksheets, performing all required security scans and patching, updating and tracking.
  • Preparing for all compliance inspections (DHS, IG, CCRI, TEMPEST, etc.) by completing self-inspection check lists, and ensuring correction of any discrepancies prior to official inspection.
  • Establishing and maintaining security awareness training program that includes initial, yearly and as needed IA training.
  • Issuing tokens and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) certificates for users of classified networks.

Qualifications

To qualify at the GS- 12 level, applicants must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
Specialized experience includes:

  • Knowledge of risk management processes, secure configuration management techniques, Government laws and policies, cyber threats and vulnerabilities, encryption algorithms, host/network access control mechanisms, vulnerability information dissemination sources.
  • Knowledge of intrusion detection methodologies and techniques for detecting host and network-based intrusions, and organization's risk tolerance and/or risk management approach.
  • Skill in evaluating adequacy of security design, using protocol analyzers, collecting data from a variety of cyber resources, recognizing and categorizing types of vulnerabilities, interpreting vulnerability scanner results to identify vulnerabilities.
  • Experience running Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGS) based tools for benchmark, conducting trends analysis, and security configuration reviews.
  • Conduct vulnerability scans and recognize vulnerabilities in security systems, and interpret the information collected by network tools.

In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement, you must also have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.

Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
