Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes investigating failure of materials which are unsatisfactory from fabrication or installation standpoint to report on findings with recommended solution; checking contractor shop drawings for compliance with contract plans and specifications and properly annotate shop drawings; preparing sketches, change drawings and specifications to eliminate potential problems; overseeing demonstrations by manufacturers' representatives; and reviewing contract drawings, specifications, and related data on questions raised by other personnel involving the intent of those documents. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
OR
Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as interior design, interior architecture, or interior environmental design.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes reviewing work by in-house staff, A-E firms, and other offices for excellence and compliance with regulations and criteria; making direct recommendations to other technical units, covering matters such as estimated time for completion of work, factual and technical data, and the cost of alternate methods, materials, or equipment; commenting on preliminary and final design documents prepared by A-E firms by giving guidance and performing reviews; preparing preliminary engineering and architectural final plans and detail drawings for a variety of projects, in support of large organizations; performing a variety of design support work, including making and checking computations, reviewing, and annotating contractor shop drawings, searching for, and obtaining needed technical information and preparation of reports; and attending pre-design and design review conferences and representing the agency in all interior design related issues. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
