Tyler Junior College is Hiring a Summer Camps Assistant Instructor Near Tyler, TX

Description

The Summer Camps Assistant Instructor is a part-time, temporary position responsible to the Director, Apache Recreation Center and Summer Camps. The Camp Assistant Instructors will perform a variety of tasks in a summer camp setting including but not limited to athletic, art, cooking, dance, maker and stem camps.

Essential Functions and Duties

Primary Responsibilities

  • Greets new arrivals and introduces them to other campers; explains camp and facility rules.
  • Assist in the reinforcement of established rules to ensure safety of campers.
  • Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness and apply appropriate behavior management.
  • Responsible for reporting and documenting any and all injuries.
  • Maintains a positive, professional and supportive relationship with camp director, management team, fellow staff, campers and camper’s guardians.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with parents, campers and other camp instructors and assistants.
  • Evaluates camps and suggest improvements, needs, hazards and trends to camp director.
  • Demonstrates use of camp equipment and teaches participants the principles, techniques, and safety procedures for each activity.
Supervisor Responsibilities
  • Help facilitate sections of daily summer camps.
  • Monitors and supervises camps and assists the instructor as need be.
  • Leads small groups of campers during break out sessions.

Work Environment: Regular work required outside of normal business hours
Physical Demands: Sitting, walking, standing, lifting, driving
Travel Required: Yes - Minimal
If travel is required, candidate must have and maintain a current valid Texas driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.

Qualifications

Required Education
High school diploma or equivalent.

Additional Job Specific Requirements

  • Previous experience working with minors preferred ages 4-17.
  • Must pass reference checks and background screenings, which include fingerprint check and sex offender registry check.
  • Able to participate in games, sports, and physical activities including water-based games and activities.
  • Able to maintain attention and high level of energy or excitement for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to spend time outdoors and tolerate a variety of weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift, carry, pull or otherwise move objects up to 30lbs.
