REPORTS TO: Principal and Executive Director of Academic Intervention
SUPERVISES: n/a
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Master's Degree;
2. Texas Teacher and Special Education Certificate; Diagnostician Certificate;
3. At least three years successful experience as a classroom teacher;
4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Trustees may find appropriate.
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
To administer and interpret psycho-educational and developmental tests for students.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Administrative/Professional Pay Grade 3, 192 days
Wage/Hour Status: Exempt
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
1. Presents a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the school district.
2. Maintains a positive and effective relationship with supervisors, colleagues, parents, and students.
3. Deals sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds.
4. Effectively communicates with colleagues, students, and parents.
5. Assesses and responds to needs related to job responsibilities.
6. Assists in the selection of evaluation materials and maintains equipment.
7. Continually evaluates the assessment program and implements changes based on these findings.
8. Receives student referrals and implements the evaluation process within the required timeline.
9. Selects and administers formal and informal evaluations to determine student eligibility for special education services according to federal and TEA regulations.
10. Collects and organizes relevant evaluation data from student cumulative folders, classroom teachers, principals, support staff, parents, and outside resource personnel.
11. Conducts classroom observations and personal interviews.
12. Completes and submits requested reports, evaluation logs, surveys, etc. to the Director of Special Education or designee by the specified due date.
13. Complies with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and the local Board of Trustees in pursuing the mission of the school.
14. Is responsible to the Director of Special Education and serves as the liaison between campus Special Education programs and the district’s Directors and Coordinators.
15. Serves as campus team member in designing, implementing, and evaluating for special education student placement and behavior intervention plans.
16. Completes evaluations, compiles information and generates legally defensible Full and Individual Evaluation reports within required timelines.
17. Assists classroom teachers with the implementation of the IEPs.
18. Shares or assumes responsibility of the confidential folders keeping them organized according to the district's operating guidelines.
19. Keeps informed about new state and federal guidelines and policies concerning special education.
20. Acts as campus level consultant and is responsible for re-evaluations, eligibility folders, and ARD meetings for central units, if applicable.
21. Keeps Special Ed PEIMS records and Medicaid information current.
22. Staffs individual student cases with Instructional Consultant or Assistant Principal, Principal, 504 Committee where appropriate.
23. Attends and participates in monthly staff meetings with the Director of Special Education and other designated staff members.
24. Confers with parents, teachers, and students/or principals for the purpose of interpretation of evaluation data, instructional procedures, and student progress and behaviors.
25. Plans and assists in implementation of appropriate staff development programs.
26. Effectively communicates to students, staff, and parents school guidelines for student conduct especially as they relate to special education students.
27. Encourages plans for improved student behavior that reflect enhanced opportunities for learning.
28. Improves leadership skills through self-initiated professional development activities.
29. Performs duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner as defined in the TEA Code of Ethics for Educators.
30. Uses information provided through the District appraisal process to improve performance.
31. Reviews, evaluates, and recommends new evaluation instruments to provide the most effective diagnostic battery possible, including modeling of certain testing procedures.
32. Performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as related to the position and as assigned.
33. Annually establishes and meets performance goals.
EQUIPMENT USED: Computer, copier, fax, and related office equipment.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Mental Demands: Reading, ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress; coordinated campus support functions.
Physical Demands: Moderate standing, stooping, bending and lifting; ability to control sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others and exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. May be required to lift and transfer students to and from wheelchair or assist with positioning students with physical disabilities; lift and carry assessment kits and equipment; prolonged and irregular hours; regular district wide travel to multiple work locations as assigned.
