Energy Operations Risk Assessment Engineer/Analyst

Texas Reliability Entity, Inc. (Texas RE) is hiring! Texas RE’s mission it to assure the effective and efficient reduction of risks to the reliability and security of the bulk power system within the ERCOT Interconnection.

Summary of Responsibilities (or Position Summary)

The Risk Assessment Engineer/Analyst supports Texas RE’s mission through the development and implementation of energy operations risk assessment methodologies, processes, and tools. The position plays an important role in defining the risk to the bulk power system through significant contact with electric industry companies in North America. The Risk Assessment Engineer/Analyst reviews and provides a technical assessment of bulk power system risk while ensuring the consistency and accuracy of information obtained. The considered candidate will be required to reside in the Austin-metro area or be able to reliably comment to the office within a reasonable amount of time.

The ideal candidate will have the following attributes:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering field of study
  • Experience in Bulk Power System operations and planning including providing technical interpretation on engineering studies
  • Experience with NERC Reliability Standards
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Team contributor with initiative
  • Ability to develop accurate, concise reports and presentations

Essential Job Duties

  • Conducts energy-related risk assessments required for compliance oversight.
  • Utilize reliability studies and assessment input from Texas RE’s reliability engineers to analyze the risks identified for reliability assessments.
  • Assist in identifying, analyzing, and communicating trends for awareness.
  • Leads in the development and updating of Regional risk and compliance programs jointly with other staff, NERC and other Regional Entity staff.
  • Leads in the development, maintenance, and performance of processes that recognize, track and incorporate internal controls in the review of entity risk.
  • Reviews bulk power event analysis to assess risk trends relevant to reliability issues.
  • Communicates risk assessment program requirements to NERC Registered Entities through presentations at informational meetings, website postings, and other means.
  • Develops reports and presentations on activities, findings and needs of the department.
  • Represents Texas RE in task forces, working groups, and teams.
  • Provides strong, honest and effective two-way communication within and beyond Texas RE.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Travel up to 25% may be required.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering field of study or six years applicable experience is required.
  • Mid-level position (minimum of 3 years applicable progressively responsible experience in excess of education/experience requirements stated above).

Company Highlights & Benefits

Employees work a hybrid work schedule consisting of at least two days in the office with the option of working three days remotely. Additional in-office work may be required depending on project scopes. Additionally, employees have the option to take advantage of Flexible Friday, where employees may shift working hours to earlier in the week instead of on Friday after noon.

Texas RE provides a generous 401(k) or Roth 401(k) savings plan for employees, contributing 10% of an employee’s compensation towards the retirement plan with full vesting after three (3) years. Additionally, Texas RE will match 75%, up to 6%, of employee contributions, with vesting at 20% per year and full vesting at five (5) years of employment.
