We are currently seeking a Histotechnician (Mohs Tech) to work three consecutive days per month at our Duluth location. The schedule of working days is available upon request. The primary responsibility of this role is working directly with our Mohs surgeon and nursing staff to handle and process tissue from the skin, prepare and stain tissue slides, label and store slides and keep detailed records of activity.

Responsibilities:

• Mohs lab set-up each month, including microscopes, stainer, and cryostat.
• Maintaining Mohs logbook including accession case log, stainer, reagent, cryostat & microscope maintenance logs.
• Complete daily quality control slide prior to first Mohs case each day.
• Logging of specimens and drawing on Mohs map.
• Labeling of slides.
• Cutting Pacman at 12 o’clock on the tissue.
• Cross and 45-degree relaxing cuts to allow the tissue to lie flat.
• Dying/staining the tissue prior to embedding.
• Embedding tissue with appropriate technique ensuring all edges are flat so the epidermis is down.
• Cutting/processing of specimen in the cryostat to ensure it is complete with epidermis.
• Verify under microscope the epidermis is complete prior to staining slides.
• Instrument maintenance of the microscopes, stainer, and cryostat.
• Appropriate setting of cryostat functions to ensure proper specimen processing.
• Cleaning and maintenance of all equipment.
• Monitoring of all supplies and ordering.

Qualifications:

• 1 or more years of Histotechnician experience
• Education, licensure, and certification requirements for Histotechnician
• Mohs Technician certified

• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification or ability to become certified within three months from the date of hire
• Acute attention to detail with ability to focus in a busy work environment
• Demonstrable analytical skills with intermediate problem-solving capability
• Ability to follow or provide verbal or written instructions
• Confident working independently
• Excellent time management skills
• Competent computer skills with the willingness to learn clinic-specific systems
• Available 3 days/week, one week/month; 24-30 hours per month
• Reliability and commitment to the schedule is of the utmost importance
