Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity is Hiring a Homeownership Advisor Near Paul, MN

The Homeownership Advisor develops strong partnerships with clients to help them build an understanding of the responsibilities of homeownership including credit and debt management. The Home Ownership Advisor facilitates the home buying coaching process for clients preparing them for utilizing any portion of TCHFH’s Homeownership Program, products or services in their application for a Habitat Home Loan.

Required Qualifications

Education, credentials, and experience:

  • Post-secondary education in related field.
  • If no degree, an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired may be considered.
  • HUD Housing Counseling Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire. Must be maintained throughout employment. 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:

  • Intercultural Competence: The ability to function effectively across cultures, to think and act appropriately, and to communicate and work with people from different cultural backgrounds.
  • Customer Service: Applies specialized product knowledge to assist and provide solutions to clients.
  • Financial Coaching: Helps individuals or improves their financial situation by providing guidance, education, and support.
  • Attention to Detail: Ensures information is complete and accurate and follows up to ensure that agreements and commitments have been fulfilled.
  • Teamwork: Works with and helps others to accomplish objectives.

Preferred Qualifications

Education, credentials, and experience:

  • Homebuyer education and counseling training. HUD, NeighborWorks, or comparable certification.
  • Financial capability coach certification or other relevant financial education certification.
  • 3 years of experience working in the housing or financial coaching field.
  • 1-2 years of experience working in foreclosure prevention counseling
  • 1-2 years of demonstrated adult education or similar experience.
  • Minimum 6 months serving clients of diverse races, cultures, and economic backgrounds in a human service setting.
  • Bi-lingual or fluent in Somali, Arabi, Amharic, Hmong, or other languages helpful but not required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:

  • Industry Knowledge: Process, trends and homeowner experience for successful work with an HOA or Insurance claim. 
  • Advisory Assistance: Provides appropriate guidance, feedback, and resources.
  • Approachability: Puts others at ease with warmth, graciousness, and active listening.
  • Client Focus: Builds strong client relationships, concentrating on how every interaction helps the client. 
  • Intercultural Competence: The ability to function effectively across cultures, to think and act appropriately, and to communicate and work with people from different cultural backgrounds. 

Education, credentials, and experience:

  • BS or BA degree in Housing Studies, Urban Studies, Geography, Political Science, Non-Profit Management, Project Management or related field, or commensurate experience in one or more of these areas.
