Turtle Bay Exploration Park is Hiring a Seasonal Butterfly House Attendant Near Redding, CA

  • SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Curator of Animal Programs, a Seasonal Butterfly House Attendant is primarily responsible for the care, feeding, physical well-being and safety of butterflies housed in the Butterfly Exhibit. Additional responsibilities include engaging guests, monitoring the safe interactions with the butterflies, and handling cash transactions.

  • ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
    • Perform general housekeeping and maintain a clean and orderly work environment, on a daily basis.
    • Engage the public and provide information to assist with interpretation of butterfly species and life cycles.
    • Safely care for chrysalis by hanging, humidity and other needs, on a daily basis.
    • Maintain records for receiving, enclosing and releasing of butterflies.
    • Observe the butterflies to monitor for any injuries, disease, parasites, or general health concerns.
    • Follow USDA protocols for care and disposal of butterflies.
    • Sell butterfly releases to the guests.
    • Other duties as assigned.
  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Must be personable and communicate in an engaging, energetic and professional demeanor during public interactions.
  • Excellent verbal skills to include: tact, creativity and calm demeanor, ability to greet and communicate effectively with staff, volunteers, vendors, donors, customers, community, and guests including school-age children, young adults and teachers.
    • Experience with recordkeeping and basic computer knowledge.
    • Must be able to use point-of-sale, e-mail, Microsoft Word and perform basic data entry in Excel.
    • Ability to carry out routine tasks.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Must be able to regularly bend, kneel and scrub.
    • Available to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, extended days and occasional evenings, as needed.
