Turning Point Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Services is Hiring a Domestic Violence Specialist Near Tuscaloosa, AL

Turning Point Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Services is seeking a DV Specialist who is passionate about helping survivors in need of assistance!

Responsibilities include: providing domestic violence assessment, safety planning, resources and assistance in case management to clients referred by the Alabama Department of Human Resources.

Assessment includes determining the extent to which domestic violence is a factor in the client’s life, the effects of violence on the client’s efforts to participate in employment activities, the risk of harm faced by the client and her/his children, the history of the violence and of previous help-seeking efforts, and the service needs of the client and her/his children.

Provide each client with assistance in safety assessment and planning

Assist client in securing financial assistance

Assist departmental staff in development and revision of Individual Service Plans addressing both domestic violence and the client’s other needs

Refer the client to other services as needed

Advocate for the client with other service providers, employers, and housing providers

Monitor the client’s continued needs for safety and services

Prepare monthly written reports to the Project Consultant

Assist the Project Consultant with training and technical assistance to Department staff in the assigned county

Maintain Client records and statistical information

Perform other tasks as required by the Executive Director

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in social services field. Preferred: minimum of two years’ experience in the area of domestic violence, welfare-to-work services and /or children welfare services.

Must be reliable, independent self-starter and dedicated and passionate in helping survivors.

Must demonstrate sound judgement and be able to function in a crisis

Knowledge of community resources and community organization skills desired

Must have excellent human relations skills and be able to work effectively as part of a team

Must have excellent communication skills, verbal and written

Must have reliable transportation and willing to drive personal vehicle to surrounding counties (mileage reimbursed).

WORK SCHEDULE

Normal work schedule is 40 hours per week. Some evening hours may be required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $30,000.00 - $35,000.00 per year
