Turner Industries Group is Hiring a Mechanical technician Near Sulphur, LA

Turner Specialty Services, LLC is seeking experienced Mechanical Rope Access Technicians for full-time work in the Lake Charles, LA area.

The Rope Access Technician is responsible for carrying out standard rope access operations to perform maintenance, repairs, and other industrial work tasks on industrial petrol / chemical equipment while on ropes.

The Technician must have the ability to perform work that is physically demanding, have good communication skills and the ability to assimilate a large amount of new information.

Responsibilities may also include rescue operations, technical reports, and administrative tasks.

  • Must have valid drivers license
  • Must have TWIC card
  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Rope Access Certification (Sprat or Irata) required
  • NCCER Craft Certification a plus
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug test
  • Documentation needed : certifications and resume

Functional Requirements

  • Uses Industrial Rope Access methods and related equipment to access and complete a wide variety of maintenance, repairs and other industrial work tasks while on ropes or in difficult access areas
  • Maintains a safe, secure and healthy environment by adhering to the IRAT / SPRAT standards and practices
  • Ensures team members utilize proper personal protective equipment
  • Displays a healthy respect for heights and follows all OSHA, site specific and company's safety procedures
  • Participates in required training and maintains a working understanding of rope access safe working practices
  • Inspects and verifies rope access systems and components before use
  • Recognizes worksite hazards and notifies the Rope Access Supervisor of any unsafe conditions
  • Maintains proficiency at rescue techniques and assist in rescues as directed and in accordance with certification level
  • Performs physical activities that require considerably use of arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, and walking
  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent
  • IRATA / SPRAT Level I,II, or III certification
  • Current TWIC Card Required
  • NCCER Certified
  • Ability to lift and carry 75 pounds
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug test

General Job Description

Perform craft duties such as insulation, painting, pipe fitting, mechanical work utilizing rope access.

Qualification Standards

  • Rope Access Certification
  • NCCER Certification
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must possess excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational and problem solving skills
  • Post-offer drug / alcohol screen and physical evaluation
  • Job site safety requirements as required by the client (long sleeves, steel toe boots, etc.)
  • Safety equipment as required by the client (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, respirator, hearing protection, safety harness with lanyard, etc.)
  • Applicant / employee must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of such individual or others in the work place.

Physical Involvement

  • Employee may be required to do the following : climbing ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc. above and below ground level;
  • maintaining balance on ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc.; reaching in all directions, handling and manipulating objects and materials;
  • coordinating the movement of eyes, hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment; lifting 30-50 lbs. from ground level, waist level, and / or overhead;
  • carrying objects, tools, etc.; standing; sitting; walking; seeing with or without correction; hearing with or without correction;
  • following set procedures and standards; applying basic mathematical skills; planning work; comparing and understanding differences in the size, shape and form of lines, figures and objects;
  • picturing and evaluating solid objects from drawings or diagrams using standards that can be measured or checked; following oral and / or written directions, plans and blueprints;

reading; writing; ability to recognize and report safety hazards.

Employee may be required to do the following : following set procedures and standards, planning work and selecting proper equipment / tools needed to complete work, following oral and / or written directions, reading and writing with or without accommodation, ability to recognize and report safety hazards, ability to recognize and report violations of company policy, including but not limited to the company EEO and Workplace Harassment & Discrimination policies.

  • Location : office environment and / or industrial jobsite
  • Mobility Barriers to Access Job Site : may include but is not limited to uneven ground level; obstructed pathways.
  • Climatic / Environmental Conditions at Job Site : outdoor and indoor climate. At industrial jobsites environmental conditions may include but is not limited to excessive humidity, exposure to extreme hot or cold weather, rain, various noise levels caused by tools, machinery, equipment etc;

potential exposure to chemical substances.

  • Field duties require outdoor work with varying weather conditions.
  • Interaction with other crew employees, as well as supervisors and client personnel.
  • Must be able to wear safety equipment as required by the safety department for personal protection.
