At Tulsa Honor Academy (THA), we are on a mission to equip all scholars with the academic skills, content knowledge, and ethical character required for college graduation and life success.

We believe ALL scholars, regardless of race, background, income or ability, can achieve at high levels. We work relentlessly to ensure 100% of scholars are on a path to go to and graduate from a college of their choice, beginning in the fifth grade. 

Opening our doors in 2015 with 92 fifth grade scholars, THA will grow to serve over 1,300 scholars in grades 5-12 across our two campuses in the 2024-2025 academic year.

WHAT YOU’LL DO 

Tulsa Honor Academy’s Assistant Principals of Instruction primarily focus on rigorous instruction, while simultaneously supporting the culture and operations of the school. The API will ensure, through instructional coaching and accountability, that all scholars receive high quality instruction making every second count in the classroom. The API works to make sure the school can reach our ambitious academic growth and achievement goals while bringing to life the THA mission and vision.

Core Responsibilities

  • Academic Achievement: To ensure Tulsa Honor Academy is on track for academic excellence, Assistant Principals of Instruction create a data-driven culture, utilize assessments to ensure curriculum exceeds state/national standards of rigor, and support teachers in curriculum implementation and instruction.
  • Coaching: Assistant Principals of Instruction conduct consistent observations of and coaching sessions with classroom teachers, ensure teachers effectively implement weekly action steps, provide quality (measurable, observable, bite-sized) feedback and are able to provide live feedback or classroom intervention, when needed. Assistant Principals of Instruction collaborate in planning and facilitation of professional development programming. 
  • Classroom Engagement & Behavior: Assistant Principals of Instruction ensure school culture maximizes learning and creates an environment full of joy and engagement. Culture includes non-instructional time, in-class behavior, classroom engagement and utilization of school-wide systems and structures. 
  • Adult Culture: Assistant Principals of Instruction build relationships with classroom teachers, address teacher needs, communicate proactively, celebrate scholar achievement, models what THA expects (from scholars and adults) and works to build positive staff morale. 
  • Leadership: Assistant Principals of Instruction hold expectations for themselves by modeling the all hands on deck mentality, embodying THA’s leadership mindset, managing time and tasks, taking ownership of tasks, communicating effectively, remaining committed to excellence and remaining proactive in all areas of responsibility. While an Assistant Principal of Instruction’s primary focus is academic instruction, it is important that all school leaders take ownership in the school’s success.

To that end, we are committed to providing an excellent education to all scholars by 1) ensuring that our scholars ultimately master the material we teach, 2) establishing a structured, yet loving environment that ensures all scholars are physically and emotionally safe at all times, and 3) creating and maintaining student and adult facing systems that enable the school to function efficiently and effectively in pursuit of our mission.

THA school leaders ensure Tulsa Honor Academy is on track for academic excellence by ensuring they and their team have a clear, long-term plan created through backwards planning, document all systems and utilize data to inform priorities and decisions. All school leaders at Tulsa Honor Academy are expected to build relationships with classroom teachers, address teacher needs, communicate proactively, celebrate scholar achievement, model what THA expects (from scholars and adults) and work to build positive staff morale. School leaders hold expectations for themselves by modeling the all hands on deck mentality, embodying THA’s leadership mindset, managing time and tasks, taking ownership of tasks, communicating effectively, remaining committed to excellence and remaining proactive in all areas of responsibility. 

THE DETAILS

Qualifications/Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • State certification preferred

Experience

  • 2 years of experience as a teacher or school leader is required 
  • Experience in curriculum development and implementation is required 
  • Proven track record of academic growth and achievement is required
  • Prior experience in a school serving a similar population to THA’s is preferred 
  • Charter school experience is strongly preferred 

The Role

  • Reports to and is held accountable by the school’s Principal. 
  • This role is year round (12 months), full-time, exempt.
  • Assistant Principals of Instruction coach classroom teachers in all subject areas and grade levels served by the school.

Compensation and Benefits 

  • THA’s starting salary range for Assistant Principals is $62,000. Salary is commensurate with full-time, K-12 leadership experience in accredited schools. THA’s compensation includes a comprehensive benefits package. To learn more about THA’s benefits, visit tulsahonor.org/careers.
