Tulane University is Hiring an Associate Director for Administration, Tulane Cancer Center Near Orleans, LA

The Associate Director for Administration (ADA) at Tulane Cancer Center (TCC) is an essential member of the senior leadership team responsible for the development, execution, and oversight of programmatic and operational activities, functions, and initiatives which enable the Cancer Center to realize its mission, vision, and full potential. The ADA supports Cancer Center faculty and institutional leaders through development of administrative and research infrastructure and capabilities which facilitate research program and shared resource development, community outreach and engagement, cancer research training and education coordination, and plans for equity and diversity. The ADA is the principal administrative officer of the Cancer Center's research and academic enterprise and its central Administrative Core office. The ADA collaborates closely with colleagues and partners involved in cancer patient and survivorship care to integrate and coordinate activities and programs.
The position provides administrative oversight and drives future strategy for enhancing and expanding cancer-relevant research across the Tulane University School of Medicine) and partner institutions. The position is essential to building a world class cancer center through innovation and implementation of best practices which will allow the TCC to successfully pursue its goal of National Cancer Institute designation.
This executive-level position also has responsibility for aligning efforts with campus-wide marketing, communications, and advancement offices to support both clinical and research dimensions of the Center. As appropriate, the ADA serves as a representative on various institutional leadership committees and boards. This position has administrative accountability for the Center's assigned space, investments, budget, information systems, and human resources associated with its research and administrative operations.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Detailed knowledge of National Cancer Institute P30 Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) application and reporting requirements, including experience in coordinating initial submission, competing renewals, and/or related progress reports. Understanding of CCSG reviewer, study section, and site reviewer expectations.
  • Demonstrates strong skills in organization, planning and evaluation, oral and written communications, and strong financial acumen.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the area of process improvement and system re-design, preferably within an academic medical center.
  • Demonstrated ability to set direct and vision, persuade internal and external constituents, establish priorities, develop policies and procedures, and allocate resources when needed.
  • Ability to act as both mentor and supervisor to both exempt and non-exempt professional staff.
  • Ability to work effectively within a matrix organization as well as develop productive inter-institutional and inter-agency relationships locally, regionally, and nationally.
  • Demonstrates ability to lead groups from diverse professional areas and operates comfortably at a variety of organizational levels to achieve results.
  • Acts proficiently in unstructured situations; working well with little direction, though able to accept direction as necessary.
  • Demonstrates skills in conflict management and possesses excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Working knowledge of National Cancer Institute P30 Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) application and reporting requirements.
  • Health care/patient care experience
  • High proficiency with excel and computer software packages
  • Solid analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multi-task, and prioritize work assignments without direct supervision
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all work performed


Required Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in biomedical research, clinical, or health care setting.
  • At least five (5) years of experience in a supervisory and/or management capacity with proven record of accomplishments.
  • Previous administrative experience within an NCI-designated clinical or comprehensive cancer center and/or other significant NIH P30 center grant mechanism.
  • Experience developing individual, institutional, and large-scale multi-project cancer research proposals (NIH and other peer-reviewed agencies or equivalent).
  • Experience with grants management.
  • Experience with creating large budgets and managing budgets.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree or higher educational degree in a relevant discipline
