The full-time Middle School Counselor position will have ongoing contact with and direct responsibility for supporting the academic and social life of students on campus. This is a ten-month position, starting in mid-August and ending in mid-June.
Roles & Responsibilities
Meet with individual students and groups of students from the MS supporting student mental health needs, including short-term crisis counseling
Communicate with teachers about specific students, and advocate for students experiencing emotional or academic difficulty
Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student needs
Participate in advisory planning committee
Assist with Intersession planning and execution
Organize lunch bunch and special interest groups related to mental health
Collaborate with the HLC (learning center) and grade deans to design student support plans and follow up as necessary with students and parents/guardians
Participate in transition meetings regarding the 8th to 9th transition
Consult with outside providers regarding student well-being and support
Member of Middle School student support team
Serve as a member of the Middle School Administrative Team
Qualifications
Master’s degree in counseling, social work, school psychology, or a related field.
LMHC, LCSW, or school psychologist licensure preferred
Experience in a counseling setting
Passion for working with adolescents, and desire to build relationships
Commitment to working in and fostering an inclusive community
Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion practices in the classroom, in curriculum, and in relationships with members of the school community
High level of comfort and experience with technology in an educational setting
Willingness to work on a team in a collaborative department
Ability to communicate effectively with students and families
