Overview:
We are seeking compassionate and dedicated individuals to join our team as Direct Support Professionals for our new adult day program for individual 18 and older with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, including but not limited to autism. As a Direct Support Professional, you will have the opportunity to make a positive impact in the lives of individuals in need of support. This role requires experience in resident rights, adult day programming, special education, childcare, ADLs (Activities of Daily Living), IADL (Instrumental Activities of Daily Living), and medication administration systems.

Responsibilities:

• Assist with the participate in all daily activities of the Day Program, and other activities as assigned and necessary
• Know the whereabouts of all participants at all times
• Administer medications according to prescribed schedules and document accurately
• Implement individualized care plans and ensure the safety and well-being of the participants
• Instruct participants in emergency procedures such as fire drills, lockdown drill, etc.
• Follow any emergency procedures in place
• Promote independence and encourage participation in social and recreational activities
• Help provide an atmosphere for developing good morale and well-being among the group
• Implement and maintain a clean and organized environment for participants
• Establishing and communicating clear objectives of lessons on ADL and IADL
• Work with participants when they need extra help and attention
• Maintain a positive relationship with participants, parents, co-workers, and supervisors
• Create a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment
• Communicate regularly and effectively with participants, parents/guardians, and staff.
• Have understanding of participants medical history and diagnoses

Requirements:

• High School Diploma required
• Ability to implement lessons to complete learning objectives on ADL and IADL.
• Ability to meet the individual needs of the participants in your care
• Ability to supervise participants safely and be able to recognized potential safety hazards
• Ability to think clearly and use good judgement in ordinary - and especially in emergency situations
• Ability to communicate effectively and positively with participants and staff
• Should possess the following personality traits: dependable, considerate, honest, flexible, a sense of humor, hard worker, conscientious, and patient.
• Successful pass job screenings including fingerprinting, drug testing, criminal background check, Sex Offender Registry and all others required by NC and Federal law.

Experience:

• Previous experience in a similar role or related field (e.g., intellectual and developmental disabilities, autism, adult day programing, special education, childcare)
• Familiarity with ADLs (Activities of Daily Living), IADL (Instrumental Activities of Daily Living), and medication administration systems
• Ability to lift 35 pounds from the ground to waist without limitation or difficulty
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team

Pay: $17.75 - $21.50 per hour
