Please review the following job description:

Apply a solid understanding of concepts within own professional discipline and use knowledge of the business and key processes gained from practical experience in completing Indirect Tax (property tax, sales/use tax, etc.) returns, maintaining Indirect Tax data, analyzing data for tax implications, processing tax invoices and supporting the reporting needs of business and functional partners.

Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time. 

  • Prepare and process Indirect Tax returns and related work papers.
  • Prepare and maintain Indirect Tax records necessary for proper Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) financial statement presentation.
  • Maintain organization’s internal Indirect Tax tracking data (e.g. property tax compliance database or sales and use tax matrix) and generate/analyze monthly, quarterly and annual reporting related to compliance.
  • Manage payment of Indirect Taxes, ensuring timely remittance.
  • Prepare responses to inquiries from internal business partners and taxing authorities.
  • Proactively identify issues and escalate them accordingly.
  • Interact with Finance to both gather data and provide support to respond to Indirect Tax questions or issues.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or 3 years of work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Prior work paper preparation and presentation experience, including cross referencing and documentation. Ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Strong computer skills in Excel and other Microsoft products.
  • Ability to solve problems in straightforward situations by analyzing possible solutions using experience, judgment and precedents.
  • Ability to use discretion and to communicate complex information, in both written and verbal forms, in straightforward situations.
  • Ability to work within guidelines or standard practices under moderate supervision while demonstrating strong self-review skills.
  • Attention to detail, with an emphasis on accuracy and consistency.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and large corporate indirect tax experience.
  • Previous experience in the banking industry.
  • Specialty data or technology skills specific to certain roles or tasks (e.g. Property Tax Management software).
