TRUE NORTH RECOVERY is Hiring a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)- Per Diem Near Wasilla, AK

(TNR) to provide our community with client-centered, culturally-competent, behavioral health treatment with same day access to services through: evidenced-based best practices, partnerships, and authentic community-based recovery supports for alcohol addiction, drug addiction, and treatment for behavioral health needs.

JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

REPORTS TO: Medical Provider

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Part time/Per Diem

SHIFT: Variable 

CLASSIFICATION: Hourly 

LOCATION: Wasilla AK 99645

General Functions:

The licensed practical nurse is responsible for providing professional nursing services and supporting medical providers in delivering quality health care to patients and to support the TNR mission. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Work as part of the nursing team
  • Utilize standard screening tools 
  • Perform and record vital signs
  • Competence with simple dressing changes, taking blood for glucometer
  • Conduct non-complex phone call backs/follow ups
  • Willingness to cross-cover in other clinical areas within his/her competency level
  • Stocking of rooms, ordering supplies, maintaining equipment
  • Work closely with medical provider to monitor patient needs 
  • Administrative duties
  • Administer prescribed medications and other therapeutic interventions to include medication rounds across the True North behavioral health system of care.
  • Observe for physical and/or emotional changes in patient’s condition from prescribed medications/treatments 
  • Promptly and accurately document noted changes, and report any deviations from normal to RN or Medical Provider
  • Document observations, treatments, procedures, and medications
  • Build and maintain a working relationship with community partner agencies.
  • Maintain current training and continuing education to perform duties to the highest standards of care.
  • Documentation and billing in EHR as indicated and appropriate.
  • Maintain TNR culture.

Minimum Requirements 

  • Must be a graduate of practical or vocational nursing program approved by a national nursing accrediting body
  • Must have a full, current, active and unrestricted license in Alaska as a graduate licensed practical or vocational nurse
  • CPR certified or willing to become certified through an accredited program
  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) 
  • Ability to climb stairs and lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.

SKILLS and ABILITIES 

  • Employees should have a thorough understanding of the cultures and the needs of this population and also the ability to remain professional with both patients and staff
  • Knowledge of alcohol use disorder and substance use disorder and addiction medicine
  • Ability to interact with patients, families and others in an empathetic, respectful and friendly manner
  • Ability to communicate proficiently both verbally and in writing. 
  • Demonstrate the ability to respond to situations, crises and emergencies with critical thinking and good judgment 
  • Working knowledge of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) and 42 CFR
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple responsibilities and tasks to completion
