Trout Unlimited is Hiring a Spokane Restoration Project Manager Near Spokane, WA

Description

ABOUT TROUT UNLIMITED

Trout Unlimited (TU) brings together diverse interests to care for and recover the rivers and streams on which we all depend. We are a national organization with 300,000 members and supporters organized into over 400 chapters and councils nationwide. Our dedicated grassroots volunteers are matched by a respected staff of organizers, attorneys, policy experts, restoration practitioners, and scientists, who work out of more than 25 offices across the country.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is an exciting opportunity to implement impactful habitat restoration projects to improve habitat for native fish, including reintroduced salmonids, in the Spokane River basin and elsewhere in the region. This Project Manager will steward projects from start to finish: developing project concepts, securing project partnerships, obtaining project funding, and managing project implementation. TU staff and grassroots work collaboratively to implement TU’s Priority Waters initiative. The Spokane Falls Trout Unlimited Chapter was founded in the 1970’s, and their 500 members have worked actively on conservation and protection of the Spokane River watershed and its native Redband?trout for decades.

TU has secured two years of funding for this position. The successful applicant will work with TU staff and stakeholders to secure additional funding for project activities and to cover core operational costs to sustain the program in future years.

The location for this position is flexible within or near the Spokane area, including a work-from-home option. The Project Manager will be required to travel throughout the Spokane River basin and nearby areas and to occasional meetings and conferences outside the region.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

In summary, this position will develop and manage successful habitat restoration and reconnection projects. These duties include securing project funding from local, state, and federal grant programs, and facilitation/oversight of project phases in collaboration with stakeholders and project partners.

Specifically, this position will:

  • Work closely with TU staff, TU grassroots, and Spokane River basin partners, stakeholders, and communities to develop valuable fish habitat restoration projects.
  • Work with local/regional partners and TU staff to fundraise for both program and project support, including identifying potential funding sources, drafting grant proposals, and developing relationships with funders.
  • Manage and complete project planning, design, permitting, on-the-ground implementation, and monitoring.
  • Attend regular Lead Entity meetings, Spokane Salmon Restoration Collaborative (for salmon recovery and other meetings related to habitat restoration in the Spokane River basin).
  • Perform administrative duties, including grant writing, reporting, contracting, invoicing, and budget management.
  • Participate in WA TU Council and Spokane Falls TU Chapter meetings and collaborate with TU grassroots on projects.
  • Execute media work to highlight project success, including collaboration with TU’s Communications staff and coordinating with partner organizations.

Requirements

 QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree.
  • At least 5 years of experience working in the field of natural resource management, fish conservation, and/or aquatic habitat restoration.
  • Experience with river restoration principles, methods, and practices, including understanding engineering design/construction concepts; restoration project construction and management desired.
  • Experience with project permitting related to aquatic restoration projects and in-water work (i.e., federal and state permits).
  • Budget management experience.
  • Understanding of natural resource management issues relevant to the conservation of trout and salmon and their habitats in Washington State.
  • Demonstrable success working with diverse stakeholders and building partnerships.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to problem-solve and think creatively.
  • Ability to travel throughout Spokane region and occasionally beyond for staff meetings, conferences, etc.
  • Valid driver’s license and own vehicle.
  • Experience using MS Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Please provide a resume, cover letter, and list of three references to Trout Unlimited via our online job application system. We will begin reviewing applications on March 10, 2024. The position will be open until filled.
