Troon is Hiring a Regional Golf Course Superintendent Near Charlotte, NC

If you get your energy from providing leadership and creating a culture of hospitality where training and accountability are front and center, Troon is seeking a Regional Golf Course Superintendent to join and lead a team of can-do, passionate, and skilled associates focused on providing superior golf course conditions to members and their guests while overseeing every aspect of agronomy and optimizing financial performance.

The Regional Golf Course Superintendent will be responsible for leading the successful operation of four Mecklenburg County, NC golf courses under Troon's Indigo Sports brand. Responsibilities entail the entirety of the agronomic operations, including P&L responsibility and client satisfaction. The successful candidate will possess a proven history of leading high-performing teams, ensuring a service-centric culture, creating positive business results, and client satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities of the Regional Golf Course Superintendent:

  • Has agronomic responsibility for their facility as well as supporting the other facilities and their staff.
  • Hires, supervises and develops Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, Foreman, Irrigation Technicians and other employees in the Maintenance Department. Has oversight in hiring of key agronomy positions for all of portfolio.
  • Works with portfolio Superintendents to coordinate/execute/follow up on cultural practices, projects, and daily activities.
  • Prepares and monitors the annual budget, labor and expenses for portfolio.
  • Maintains all grounds including the golf course, practice facilities, clubhouse surroundings and other specified property.
  • Communicates frequently with the Regional Director of Agronomy, Regional General Manager and individual facilities General Managers/Superintendents to discuss course conditions, activities, goals, plans and member/customer feedback.
  • Maintains inventory and oversees all repairs and scheduled maintenance of all golf course maintenance equipment.
  • Develops chemical and fertilization plan on an annual basis and maintains inventory monthly. Oversees purchasing for the entire portfolio.
  • Supervises maintenance and operation of drainage, irrigation and other mechanical watering systems.
  • Ensures that the golf course portfolio is providing healthy and high‐quality playing conditions for guests of the property.
  • Prepares and maintains all recordkeeping for the Maintenance Department (i.e. Human Resource files, inventory files, fertilization and chemical application logs).
  • Monitors other financial reports/statements on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis for the facility and takes effective corrective action when necessary.
  • Initiates and establishes basic personnel policy, initiates and monitors policies relating to personnel actions and training along with professional development programs.
  • Ensures all Human Resources policies, procedures and processes are adhered to by management and staff.
  • Responsible for interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, and directing work, evaluating performance, rewarding, and disciplining associates, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
  • Successfully collaborates with the 1st Tee of Charlotte, NC in administrating established Agreements and is active in the advancement of programs designed to promote youth in golf.
  • Assures the provision of effective orientation and training for each new associate. Develops ongoing training programs.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.

Minimum Qualifications for the Regional Golf Course Superintendent:

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA) from a four-year college or university; and five years of experience and/or training in a public club as a Superintendent; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (Multi-course facilities may require more experience.)

Other Qualifications:

  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and written is key to the overall success of the position.
  • GCSAA membership preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
