Requirement Summary
Our Ocean Systems Group is seeking an engineering team lead to be part of a multi-disciplinary team working on projects that involve communications in the ocean - underwater, above the water, and across the ocean interface. The engineer will lead ocean communications and networking projects with an emphasis on small, disadvantaged platforms. Innovation and problem solving will be a major part of your position along with the ability to work productively with a diverse team of researchers.
Responsibilities

• Self-starter with the ability to recognize and creatively solve complex problems
• Serve both as an individual contributor and lead a project team
• Take ownership of project success and maintain customer relationships
• Perform experiments in an independent & inventive manner
• Identify and manage project schedules and risks
• Support business development through proposal writing and the pursuit of strategic partnerships
• Document project progress

Desired Qualifications
Experience with some of the following:

• Undersea acoustic communication modems, including understanding of coding and modulation techniques
• RF antenna design, characterization, and testing
• Familiarity with the whole multilayer stack of resilient & fault-tolerant networks
• Ad hoc networking & RF mesh networking principles
• RF integration and test, including familiarity with radios transceivers including LPI/LPD techniques and test and test equipment
• Acoustic data compression techniques
• Audio digital signal processing (DSP)
• System-level design thinking and systems engineering discipline, including systems-level modeling & simulation tools
• Anti-submarine Warfare (ASW) systems and applications including sonobuoys, sensors, and unmanned vehicles
• Hands-on and coordinating cross-discipline research efforts
• Ability to "speak" fluently with team members and customers about either hardware or software of firmware aspects of a system

The ideal candidate will have broad interest in these areas and the desire to lead a team to develop and field a product in a chosen area. Excellent presentation and writing skills are a plus to accomplish this goal.
Education/Experience

• MS degree in Engineering, Physics, or a closely related field desired
• 5 years of experience with listed qualifications.
