Triton Medical Robotics is Hiring a Director of Mechanical Engineering, Instruments and Composites Near Burlingame, CA

Triton Robotics, a division of Neptune Medical, is a lean, innovative, and ambitious venture capital funded Silicon Valley medical device start-up. We have already commercialized novel medical devices using our Dynamic Rigidization™ technology. Now we are building something truly unique: A fully flexible medical robotic platform intended to replace much of manual endoscopy. We believe our technology will be the standard for endoluminal robotics for decades to come.

TITLE:  Director of Mechanical Engineering, Instruments and Composites

POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Mechanical Engineering, Instruments and Composites is a key member of the leadership team at Triton. The Director is expected to lead a team focusing on a critical next-generation robotic endoscope. This a highly strategic role at Triton Robotics.

The ideal candidate would act with passion and intensity in a medical device start-up that is fast paced and collaborative and display the ability to perform to the requirements outlined below. For the right person, this position will be a tremendously exciting and career-defining opportunity, making core contributions to a genuinely new type of medical robotic platform.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead a team building a new endoscope.
  • Work as part of the core leadership team to develop product and execution strategy.
  • Work to meet aggressive cost, performance and manufacturing goals.
  • Work cross-functionally to deliver a safe, effective and reliable endoscope.
  • Generate and achieve realistic but aggressive schedules.
  • Act as player/coach, technically contributing to development in a significant way.
  • Mentor and teach more junior team members.
  • Help the team work with typical and new catheter/endoscope technologies:
    • Coiling, braiding and laser cut hypotubes
    • Extrusions and films
    • Steering/bending sections
    • Thermal and adhesive bonds
    • Coatings

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related.
  • 10 years of hands-on experience in robotics and/or medical device development. At least 5 years in a managerial role
  • Proven track record of building and leading technical, cross-functional teams, particularly within a regulated environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills including presentation of technical content.
  • Willingness to work in a startup environment and adapt to changing needs and priorities.
  • A driven outlook and with a strong desire to succeed.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • M.S. or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or similar.
  • Experience with composite structures, both experimentally and analytically.
  • Experience with development of articulating endoscopes and catheters.
  • A track record of taking a product from conception to launch and beyond.
  • Experience in a start-up environment.
  • Management of a team that contributed to the successful launch of a medical robot.
  • Experience working with healthcare providers in a hospital environment.

Triton Robotics is located in Burlingame, CA, within walking distance to the Millbrae Caltrain and BART station.

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The starting base salary for this role is between $220,000 and $270,000 depending on experience. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: education, training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for equity, benefits and 401(K) with matching.
