Job Summary and Qualifications

Job Summary:

The Unit Secretary plays a key role in supporting patient care by performing essential clerical tasks and administrative duties. You will serve as the primary point of contact for the nursing unit, ensuring a smooth workflow and positive experience for patients, families, and staff. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

What you will do:

• Greet patients and visitors, answer questions, and direct them as needed.
• Maintain a positive and welcoming environment for patients and visitors.
• Manage patient charts, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and filing procedures are followed.
• Assist with physician order entry and maintain patient confidentiality.
• Answer phones, screen calls, and relay messages to appropriate personnel.
• Process orders accurately and communicate urgent requests promptly.
• Maintain par levels of supplies on the unit.
• Follow departmental policies and procedures to ensure efficient workflow.

Qualifications:

• Previous experience working in an acute care hospital setting as a unit secretary or patient care tech is preferred but not required.
• Demonstrated experience performing clerical tasks in a healthcare setting.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, families, physicians, and staff.
• Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in performing assigned duties.
• Proficient in computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
• Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification required within 6 months of employment start date.
