Job Summary:
Young Scholars is a private, non-profit school for children with developmental disabilities in kindergarten through 2nd grade. With a maximum class size of 10 students and 1-2 teaching assistants, the nontraditional one-room schoolhouse is conducive to individualized learning. At Young Scholars, a Teacher has the independence to create their own classroom from the ground up! We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Teacher to join our team. As a Teacher, you will be responsible for creating a nurturing and stimulating learning environment for children. You will play a crucial role in their educational and social development, helping them build a strong foundation for future success.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement age-appropriate lesson plans and curriculum
- Provide instruction in various subjects, including math, literacy, writing, science, and social studies
- Foster a positive and sensory-friendly environment that promotes learning and growth
- Assess student progress and provide feedback to parents/guardians
- Collaborate with clinical director and assistants to create a comprehensive educational program
- Utilize various teaching methods and resources to engage students and enhance their learning experience
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and behavior
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians to discuss student performance and address any concerns
Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Education or related field (required)
- DPI-license in elementary, special education, or other (required)
- Previous experience working with children with autism (preferred)
- Knowledge of childhood development principles and best practices
- Familiarity with special education strategies and techniques
- Independent problem-solving skills and confident decision making
- Creativity and flexibility of lesson planning, scheduling, and teaching
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet the needs of diverse learners
