Position: Barn Hand

Location: Manhattan, IL

Schedule: Part time; Monday, Wednesday, and Sunday 7:00am-3:00pm

Salary: $16.00 per hour Part time

Position Overview:

Under general supervision of the STRIDES program Coordinator, provides instruction/training in horsemanship skills to individuals who are disabled. Adapts horses and lessons taught to appropriate skill and age levels. Consults with relevant professionals in developing exercises, games, etc., to include safety and skill level factors. Prepares necessary reports and program records.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the STRIDES Director:

• Assisting in lessons and during events
• Feeding animals
• Cleaning stalls
• Turning out horses
• Sweeping and cleaning of the barn
• Riding and exercising horses
• General farm maintenance (dusting, weeding, etc)
• Learning how to drive a tractor with manure spreader
• Grooming and care for horses and farm animals
• Needs to be able to lift 50 lbs. (hay & feed bags)
• Cleaning tack
• Other necessary tasks to keep the barn running smoothly
• Looking for a reliable, hard-working individual who is self-motivated

Qualifications:

• High School diploma or GED (required)
• The physical activities for this position involve: balancing, fingering, pulling, pushing, standing, climbing, grasping, stooping, crouching, crawling, kneeling, reaching, lifting, repetitive motion, pushing wheelchairs, and lifting up to 40 pounds
