Trinity Reformed Church United Church of Christ is Hiring a Choir Accompanist (Piano) and Director Near Collegeville, PA

Are you a passionate and skilled musician looking for an exciting opportunity to lead and inspire a church choir? Look no further! We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic Choir Director and Accompanist to join our vibrant church community.

As our Choir Director, you will have the chance to showcase your musical expertise and creativity by selecting and directing uplifting music for our adult and youth choirs. With your ability to read and interpret music, accompany singers on piano and/or organ, and excellent communication skills, you will lead our 10-15 member chancel choir to new heights of musical expression and joy.

Qualifications

- Ability to read and interpret music

- Ability to accompany singers on piano and/or organ

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

- Commitment to promoting a positive and inclusive choir experience

Preferred:

- Experience directing a choir within a church or religious setting

- Degree or certification in music, music education, or related field​

Responsibilities and Duties

The choir director’s main responsibility is to lead and accompany the adult and youth choir(s) in singing performances during church services (Sunday, as well as occasional midweek special services) or other events.

The current chancel choir has approximately 10-15 singers who enjoy the process of sharing the joy of music with the congregation. The choir director is also responsible for any youth choir activity. Currently we do not have a youth choir, but the goal is to work with the Sunday School children when they meet to encourage possible future youth singing opportunities during worship.

The director coordinates with the music team and works closely with choir members and the pastor to select and rehearse music.

​Key responsibilities include:

Choose choir music for all services with input from the pastor

Accompany the choir during rehearsals and performances

Direct choir rehearsals and performances

Lead rehearsals to teach the choir new music and to polish previously learned pieces

Collaborate with music team members, pastor and other instrumentalists

Develop relationships with choir members, promoting a positive and enjoyable experience for all

Set performance schedules and communicate them to choir members and other church staff. Notify pastor of anthem selections 2 weeks prior to each performance

Help recruit new choir members

Maintain music library and order new copies of music as needed

Obtain and maintain clearances when working with youth

Current rehearsal schedule, Chancel Choir:

Rehearsal – every Thursday from 7:00 – 7:45 PM (Sept – May)

Rehearsal – Sunday mornings from 8:45 – 9:15 ( Sept – June)

Performs – Every Sunday at 9:30 AM service

Performs at special services through the church year (Sept – May)

Compensation:

- Salary based on experience in directing and accompanying church choirs

- Social Security

- Assurance of the right to serve as organist/pianist for all weddings and funerals after organist has declined

Our Instruments

Organ

The 13 rank, pipe organ, Opus 6298, manufactured by the Wicks Pipe Organ Company of Highland, Illinois was constructed by Wicks between August to December 1993 in Ohio. The organ has 886 pipes. The console provides 25 stops in three divisions (Great, Swell and Pedal) as well as tremelo and chimes. Dedicated on April 10, 1994; with a dedicatory recital on May 1, 1994. (Keep in mind that although it is an OPUS 6298 – it was custom built for Trinity).

Piano (Sanctuary)

The piano in the Sanctuary is manufactured by Steinway & Sons; and is considered an upright model. We cannot locate a model number for the piano – either on the piano or in the Church files.

We did find a plaque on the piano that’s states:

“Accelerated Action”

”Hexagroup Pinblock”

“Diaphragmatic Soundboard”
