Serves as the hospital spokesperson for public, media relations while coordinating all aspects of internal and external communication including writing, editing, art direction, graphic design and printing. Cultivates positive media relations by initiating and responding to news releases by assertively promoting programs and services. Understands how to use social media platforms to best position before key stakeholders. Manages messaging on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, etc.
Bachelors Degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Three or more years previous work experience in public relations and/or journalism to include professional writing and/or media experience. Portfolio of writing required.
Excellent customer service orientation skills necessary in order to deal effectively with various levels of hospital personnel, outside customers and community groups.
Excellent writing and oral communication skills. A written test may be required at time of hire.
Strong computer skills with working experience using Microsoft Word, Project, Power Point, and other desktop publishing software.
Strong interpersonal skills necessary to effectively promote and represent the hospital to the media and community and to work effectively with members of administration, medical staff and personnel at all levels.
Knowledge of all aspects of internal and external communications processes including writing, editing, art direction and graphic design and printing and production.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to establish priorities and be self directed.
Duties / Responsibilities
Serves as the hospital spokesperson for public and media relations.
Creates news bureau, initiates news releases, PSA's, feature stories and story ideas. Cultivates positive media relations by aggressively promoting programs and services.
Coordinates all aspects of internal and external communications including writing, art direction, graphic design and printing.
Serves as editor for major publications including Health Tips, Annual Report and WOW as well as writer/editor of the weekly employee newsletter, monthly marketing update for the Senior Leadership Committee and the Board. Also, serves as contributing writer for other publications.
Responsible for developing and managing newsletter strategy.
Provides counsel to other department professionals in areas related to publications as needed.
Provides assistance and leadership to other departments in creative process of writing, developing and producing promotion materials such as brochures, flyers and posters.
Provides support for senior leadership and medical staff leadership for presentation and speeches, i.e., Town Hall, etc.
Serves as proof-reader/editor for all communication materials.
Attends meetings and serves on committees as required.
Participates as required in external agencies and organizations such as city chambers of commerce and community action teams.
