The Financial Analyst at St. Mary Mercy Hospital, under the direct supervision of the Director of Financial Analysis, compile and analyze data to be used for budget planning, decision support, productivity, variance analysis, economic justification, and special projects in accordance with established departmental standards, policies and procedures.
St. Mary Mercy Hospital is a full-service, 304-bed acute care hospital, located in Livonia, MI, that provides comprehensive care, including a 24-hour emergency department, general medicine, inpatient and outpatient surgery, physical medicine and rehabilitation, intensive care unit, cancer, cardiology, geriatrics and birthing and women's health. REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE
Education:
Bachelor degree in accounting, finance or related field or combination of experience and education required.
Training and Experience:
Minimum of two to four years' experience in finance and/or accounting analysis required.
Demonstrated understanding of the principles of general accounting and theories of finance is required.
Previous experience in a hospital environment is desirable.
Previous experience with cost accounting or decision support preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide customer assistance in defining, educating and analyzing financial reports and other tools.
Apply analytical skills in the operating budget process and forecasting.
Apply knowledge of financial applications/theories on a day-to-day basis with minimum supervision.
Communicate to the customer results of analysis in both written and oral form.
Maintain financial application(s) integrity, through data loads, reconciliations, and structure maintenance.
Perform in-depth financial analysis with recommendation and conclusion.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Analytical ability to prepare and evaluate statistical reports.
Written and verbal communication skills to be effective with internal and external users, including management and administration.
Ability and motivation to increase working knowledge of the job, hospital and industry updates, rules and regulations as they pertain to the hospital financial area.
Independently perform routine financial analysis (e.g. routine pricing studies, Six Sigma financial entitlements, equipment replacement financial studies) with minimal supervision.
Able to work on complex financial analysis (ex. Service line analysis, develop new department or service economic justifications) with supervision.
Ability to make presentations to interdepartmental staff members and other various management levels.
Thorough understanding of general accounting, financial and healthcare related principles.
