Trinity Episcopal School is Hiring a Middle School Learning Specialist Near Orleans, LA

Trinity Episcopal School is currently seeking a full time Middle School Learning
Specialist to oversee the Middle School aspects of the Learning Support program and
manage the information related to those students with a diagnosed learning difference.
The Middle School Learning Specialist plays a pivotal role in maintaining a clear
channel of communication with parents, tutors, faculty and the students with learning
differences. The Middle School Learning Specialist is proactive in the identification of
and remediation for students at risk in support of academic achievement and
social/emotional learning.

Specific responsibilities of the Middle School Learning Specialist include:
  • Maintain electronic/paper files pertaining to students with diagnosed learning
disabilities
  • Read and interpret educational evaluations to determine appropriate school
accommodations and pedagogy
  • Create and execute a plan for standardized testing for those with
accommodations
  • Create individual learning profiles to be shared with the appropriate teachers
  • Establish channels of communication with parents to discuss learning

challenges, strategies, and accommodations and create an action plan for each
child with learning goals. Meetings/conversations with parents are to be
scheduled in a timely manner

  • Serve as an advocate for students with learning disabilities who have mandated
classroom accommodations
  • Conduct classroom observations and assessments for struggling students; share
relevant support strategies with teachers
  • Regularly meet with individuals or small groups of students who have a current
evaluation in support of individual academic action plans
  • Initiate referrals for professional evaluations for students who may have an
undiagnosed learning disability
  • In collaboration with the Head of Learning Support, maintain a list of professional
resources: educational psychologists, speech therapists, occupational therapists,
tutors, behavioral therapists
  • Keep current and informed about new trends, resources, and best practices in
the field
  • Attend professional development opportunities when possible
  • Serve as a resource for administrators, teachers, learning specialists, and other

professionals through professional development, meetings, and dialogue with
classroom teachers

  • Create schedules for student support
  • Collaborate with teachers in weekly team meetings to monitor student progress
and support classroom accommodations
  • Collaborate with outside therapists of students receiving learning support and

communicate information gained from therapists as appropriate with that child’s
teachers

  • Establish an open dialogue with parents by sharing a monthly learning support
newsletter with resources to help further support students at home.
  • Meet with parents at the beginning of the school year, and again at mid-year and
end-of-year to share progress and address any ongoing concerns

The Learning Specialist applicant will have at least three years of experience working
with students with learning disabilities. The preferred candidate would hold a Bachelor’s
degree, but an advanced degree is preferred. The candidate would be invested in
curriculum, pedagogy, and the science of learning, as well as have a commitment to
lifelong learning.
