Summary

The Academic Support Specialist position is an integral member of the University’s Office of Student Affairs. The Academic Support Specialist assists the Director of Academic Success with administrative duties, primarily focused on, but not limited to, coordinating testing center services; overseeing academic coaching services; coordinating peer study sessions and tutoring services; and advising students involved in the Academic Success Center.

Essential Responsibilities

The Specialist works and contributes through a team-oriented approach to assist the Academic Success team in the overall operations. The Specialist’s primary responsibilities are to:

• Work closely with students, faculty, and staff to enable students to achieve their educational goals and assist the University in achieving retention goals.
• Responsible for the management and intervention of academic-related WeCare Alerts.
• Supervises a team of part-time academic coaches—providing executive functioning skills, academic coaching services, and learning strategy instruction for assigned students.
• Generates and files periodic activity reports to faculty and management documenting efforts made and services offered.
• Supervises undergraduate peer study session leaders; assess student study session attendance and incorporate strategies to increase and enhance student participation.
• Performs academic advising functions, as needed, to assist members of the Academic Success Center with student retention and success services.
• Contributes to strategic initiatives within the Office of Student Affairs.
• Performs additional administrative duties to contribute toward effective implementation of Academic Success programs and services.
• Performs other related tasks as assigned.

Education / Experience

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Two to four years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
