Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium has a hiring preference for qualified Alaska Native and American Indian applicants pursuant to P.L. 93-638 Indian Self Determination Act.

Summary:

Working independently, installs, inspects, troubleshoots, repairs and maintains high level, complex electrical systems, components, equipment and facilities for area of assignment. Performs highly responsible work in accordance with local and national electrical codes and regulations.

Responsibilities:

Determines the need for electrical system parts and supplies; orders and maintains adequate stock levels. Determines the cost and type of materials needed for electrical projects.

Trains and performs quality checks on work conducted by lower level electricians.

Reviews blueprints and specifications; ensures drawings and specifications will function as designed in environment intended for use. Conducts project review and planning. Conducts as-built surveys of electrical jobs and panels as required.

Determines layout, constructs and tests electrical panels. Orders, receives, inspects and verifies materials are in working condition, and ships materials to construction sites.

Installs, troubleshoots, repairs and maintains high level and extremely complex electrical parts and systems of varying applications for area of assignment. Troubleshoots and repairs wire circuits including distribution panels, transformers, motor control centers and automatic transfer switches.

Installs, troubleshoots, repairs and maintains electrical control circuits for motors and control devices for various electrical devices. Performs retro-fitting of equipment with updated technological controls and equipment to improve performance and efficiency.

Installs, troubleshoots, repairs, tests and maintains emergency generators, power distribution systems and various electrical systems, components and equipment to insure proper operation.

Identifies defective equipment and repairs or replaces equipment. Inspects, repairs and maintains electronic devices.

Responds to emergency service calls for electrical services or repairs and assists other trades workers in troubleshooting facility problems.

Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS

· Knowledge of installing, repairing and operating building electrical and emergency power generation systems.

· Knowledge of operating, troubleshooting and maintaining electrical systems of various applications.

· Knowledge of local and national regulatory electrical codes and requirements.

· Knowledge of safety procedures for the installation, repair and maintenance of electrical systems.

· Knowledge of safety precautions when operating motorized vehicles, equipment and hand tools.

· Skill in installing, troubleshooting and maintaining electrical and emergency power generation systems.

· Skill in reading and evaluating electrical blueprints, panel layout sheets and other technical schematics.

· Skill in using analytical and research skills to define and solve problems.

· Skill in operating motorized vehicles, equipment and hand tools.

· Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with others.

MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION

Completion of Electrician apprenticeship program typically requiring a combination of 8000 hours of education, practice, and/or on-the-job training and leading to a journey-level designation. An equivalent amount of education, training, and/or experience may be substituted for the apprenticeship program.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION

Non-supervisory - Four (4) years of experience as a journeyman electrician.

MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

Must possess State of Alaska journeyman electrical license. May be required to possess an Alaska driver’s license with a clean driving record.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Depending on the needs of the organization, some incumbents in this job class may be required to obtain additional certifications or training in one or more specialty areas. May be required to work outside the traditional work schedule. May be called out to work off-shift in emergency situations.

MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The following demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds; climb ladders, crawl, need full mobility of all limbs able to navigate and work in tight/closed areas. Must not be claustrophobic, acrophobic, or be colorblind. This position requires frequent standing, bending, stooping, kneeling and working in cramped spaces. ANMC is not a latex free environment. Therefore, some latex exposure can be expected.
