Tribe 9 Foods is Hiring a QA Sanitarian Near South Windsor, CT

Position Summary:

This role is responsible for monitoring and verifying the activities of the Sanitation staff to ensure compliance with policies and procedures relating to Sanitation. The role is responsible for identifying hazards and examining conditions as they relate to the proper sanitation of the facility and the equipment, hazardous materials, allergen control, vector control, and environmental conditions of the facility. Works under the supervision of the Quality Assurance Manager

Work Schedule and Hours:

Working schedule and hours are Monday – Friday 10:00pm – 6:00am, occasional weekend work and overtime is required.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Sanitarian acts as a liaison between Quality Assurance and Sanitation.
  • Conducts inspections, checking sanitary conditions, equipment, and cleaning procedures.
  • Periodically perform inspections on the facility conditions and request work orders as needed. Examples include flaking paint, rust, equipment damaged, etc.
  • Perform daily pre-operation inspection and add findings to the sanitation log.
  • Ensure dry pickup is completed properly.
  • Ensure machine disassembly and reassembly is done correctly.
  • Coordinate production requirements (e.g., startup times, equipment setup needs).
  • Follow up on the Intensified Cleaning Program as needed.
  • Review chemical titration records and verify chemical concentrations.
  • Complete Sanitation verification and validation.
    • APC Swabs – once a week.
    • Routine ATP Swabs – 8 to 10 per day.
    • Pre-Op Pesto Swabs- 6 per day. (3-Pre-op, 3 Operational).
    • Environmental Swabs – Weekly or as needed.
    • Allergen Swabs – As needed.
  • Prepare written reports on Sanitation activities.
  • Maintain SDS and Chemical Charts.
  • Update microbiological log with test results.
  • Conducted GMP trainings for Sanitation group once per month.
  • Participates with state, federal, and 3rd Audits.
  • Prepare the Agenda for the Sanitation Meeting every two weeks, on Wednesdays at 9:00 a.m.
  • Investigate and follow up on environmental complaints.
  • Perform record review of all sanitation-related records on a regular basis (SSOP, MSS, SDS, training, and titration records).
  • Review CIP charts and Sanitation Effectiveness / Trends.
  • Sanitation ATP Swabs / Trends.
  • Schedule quarterly sanitation review presentation.
  • Measure Sanitation performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Conduct yearly Sanitation Validation for all lines and areas.
  • Conduct yearly CIP Validation.

Job Requirements:

  • University degree in Food Science or relevant field such as Chemistry, Microbiology or Biology or 3 to 5 years of experience in sanitation.
  • Knowledge of regulations, principles, and techniques relating to environmental programs in the food manufacturing industry.
  • Knowledge of laboratory practice related to the analysis of testing the ATP swabs, Allergen swabs, and environmental swabs.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills to communicate effectively.
  • Good knowledge of MS Office and databases.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is subject to standing for prolonged periods; frequently walks, grasps, lifts, holds, or feels objects; occasionally stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls. The employee frequently is required to use manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination when working and handling products, computers, or machinery. The employee is subject to assist and support up to 50 pounds with varying amounts of assistance on a as needed basis. The employee is required to have corrected vision and hearing within normal range and the ability to operate equipment if required. The employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts and non-moving mechanical parts. The employee could have work conditions that are extremely cold or extremely hot. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
