Medical Support Development Coordinator
Job Identification
Title: Medical Support Development Coordinator (MSDC)
Department: Human Resources
Schedule: 40 hours per week;Schedule varies based on the needs of the hospital

Job Summary
The MSDC is responsible for the development, organization, implementation and performance of training and development programs for the medical support team. This position will provide the medical support team with the ongoing guidance, motivation and support needed to enable their success and growth during their initial and continuous training periods. Essential Job Functions

  • Assess training and development needs through surveys, interviews, and communication with clinicians, supervisors and management
  • Under the direction of the Director of Human Resources (DHR), create training and development programs to meet the needs of employees in the advancement and improvement of their job skills
  • Create, organize, plan, and present various forms of onboarding, orientation, skills and knowledge training for employees including:
    • A comprehensive onboarding program
    • Classroom and skills lab-based learning activities
    • Comprehensive training documentation
    • Requirements and assessments for training phase/program entry and completion
    • Semi-annual/annual training (CPR, radiology safety, controlled substances, etc.)
    • Training methodology for other trainers/floor leads
  • Create and/or acquire training procedure manuals, guides, checklists and course materials
  • Present training and development programs using various forms and formats including one-on-one floor and classroom training, group classes/discussion, skills labs, simulations, and visual materials
  • Maintain records of training and development activities, attendance, results of tests and assessments, and retraining requirements and provide updates to Medical Support Supervisors (MSS) on employee progress towards training goals
  • Work directly on the floor with employees in development to provide one-on-one training and assessment of progress
  • Evaluate program effectiveness through assessments, surveys, and feedback
  • Identify areas in which employees need additional development support for continued growth and career advancement
  • Develop regular CE/training topics for medical support staff in collaboration with clinicians and MSS
  • Maintain knowledge of the latest trends in training and development
  • Performs other related duties as required.

General

  • Identify and bring to the attention of the (DHR) any issues or concerns in the training process that require attention and assist in the development of solutions
  • Meet regularly with DHR and MSS to review current staff training
  • Serve as resource for medical support staff for hospital policies and procedures
  • Promote positive team culture
  • Promote respect between all members of the team and clinician.
  • Promote an atmosphere the supports input, feedback and collaboration

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
This job operates in a veterinary healthcare environment that performs in- and out-patient procedures as well as provides hospitalization care for small companion animals. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, as well as specialized veterinary medical equipment including anesthesia machines, radiology machines, ultrasound, CT, oxygen therapy units, and IV fluid pumps.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and stooping all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position in a healthcare facility which is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will be required.
Required Education and Experience
  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent
  • 5 years of work experience as a RVT or Veterinary Medical Assistant
  • 3 year of work experience as a RVT or Veterinary Medical Assistant in an emergency/specialty setting
Preferred Education and Experience
  • 1 years of leadership or staff education experience
