The Triangle's premier emergency and specialty hospital is seeking a highly motivated and experienced veterinary technician/veterinary medical assistant to join our team as a Medical Support Supervisor (MSS). Triangle Veterinary Referral Hospital (TVRH) provides 24-hour emergency service and specialty referrals in surgery, internal medicine, cardiology, oncology, neurology, critical care and radiology. In addition, our updated facility is outfitted with advanced medical equipment such as MRI, CT, digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy and laparoscopy enabling the medical team to offer quick, high-level diagnostics, treatment and follow up care.
As TVRH continues to grow, we are expanding our team to include additional Medical Support Supervisors. This position serves as a working supervisor role and is expected to provide the team with additional medical support assistance as necessary. Floor duties may include routine patient care such as patient assessment, performing patient treatments, administering medications, taking radiographs, venipuncture, anesthesia monitoring, obtaining patient histories and client communication. In addition, the MSS directs the flow of the technician team to promote efficient and effective completion of duties. The MSS is also responsible for the HR management of the departments medical support team and development/implementation of patient care processes. HR management duties include recruitment, performance management, scheduling and training.
The MSS, in conjunction with the supervisory and management team, will help to oversee the day to day flow of the medical support team, identify and address any issues or concerns and provide team members with the appropriate training, tools, direction and motivation to enable their success. This role functions with a great deal of autonomy and responsibility. Solid technical skills and knowledge base, sound judgment, and the ability to function both independently and with a team are required. Strong communication skills, verbal and written; organizational and computer skills; proactive thinking and the right attitude are essential to experience success in this position. Due to the nature of emergency medicine, flexibility is a necessity. Schedules will include some evening and/or weekend hours.
Lastly, as a representative of management, the Medical Support Supervisor must support the hospital mission, vision, goals and management decisions.

Collaborate with the management team regarding staff management vision and objectives
Demonstrate advanced skills and medical knowledge and use them in order to lead others in providing quality patient care
This position encompasses all floor duties/skills of all reporting positions including Registered Veterinary Technicians (RVT), Veterinary Medical Assistants (VMA) and Technician Assistants (TA)
Supervise medical support staff performance and productivity while on the treatment floor to ensure highest level of patient care
Ensure adequate staffing on the floor to meet patient care needs
Work with clinicians to organize and direct workflow during each shift
Facilitate communication between clinicians and medical support staff
Address issues requiring immediate intervention regarding patient care or workflow that arise with support staff
Maintain services medical support staff schedule
Assure high quality of patient care by developing and interpreting hospital standards in conjunction with the clinician and leadership teams
Address support staff concerns
Develop and implement plans for accomplishing daily team goals, keeping all service team members on task and on schedule
Maintain communication with other services/departments
Schedule and conduct candidate interviews
Work with the Staff Development Coordinator to develop new and ongoing employee training protocols and processes
Address medical support staff disciplinary and performance issues with the support of the HR
Meet with clinicians leadership to discuss service staffing and needs
Promote an atmosphere that supports input, feedback, respect and collaboration from all team members
Participate in supervisory on-call rotation, serving as a contact for hospital needs Other related duties as assigned
Required Education and Experience
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent
3 years of work experience as a medical support team member in an ER and/or Specialty hospital setting
Advanced skill level and ability to lead/train other medical support members
Preferred Education and Experience
Associates degree in Veterinary Technology
Current Certification RVT in NC or eligible for NC registration
2 years of lead, supervisory or managerial experience and/or training in a veterinary setting
