Summary Description

Mid-level engineering position serving as the primary electrical power engineer performing all aspects of power system testing & troubleshooting, and power system analysis in support of the EnerG Test team and The Tri-M group. Provide basic power system design.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Complies with all Tri-M and customer safety policies and procedures.
  • Complies with all Tri-M employment policies and procedures including standards of conduct and appearance to reflect positively on the Company.
  • Performs short circuit, coordination, arc flash, and load flow studies and prepares reports.
  • Provides engineering for planning and execution of testing projects.
  • Performs quality assurance reviews of acceptance and maintenance test reports.
  • Prepares reports for power quality, system coordination, and other engineering investigations
  • Performs field surveys to determine testing project scope of work and site conditions.
  • Prepares and conducts in-house training sessions for testing technicians.
  • Assists technicians with on-site engineering support for testing, troubleshooting, and upgrades.
  • Prepares test plans and/or preliminary designs, cost estimates, and proposals for prospective projects.
  • Performs power system analysis to determine root cause and solution(s) to customers’ power quality, system coordination, and equipment problems.
  • Provides design and equipment specifications for solutions to customers’ power quality, system coordination, and equipment problems.
  • Assists other departments with engineering support for power system design and testing.
  • Stays abreast of testing standards, methods, equipment and software, and makes recommendations for improvement in processes and techniques.
  • Perform power quality testing and troubleshooting.
  • Perform basic power system design and improvement projects.

Job Qualifications

Skills/Educational Requirements:

  • Four-year degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 3 years as a registered professional engineer, in at least one of the following states: PA, DE, MD, NJ. Individual must be able to obtain registration in these states within 18 months if not presently registered.
  • 2 years’ experience in power systems engineering with exposure to power systems and / or electrical testing.
  • Experience with electrical distribution systems from the utility through to the control level.
  • Working knowledge of NETA, NFPA, NEC, IEEE, and ANSI standards applicable to power systems electrical testing.
  • Knowledge or familiarity with power system design methodologies, grounding, and with power system equipment including overcurrent protective devices, motor-control centers, switchgear, transformers, and other low- and medium-voltage power distribution equipment of many manufacturers.
  • Experience with power systems modeling and analysis software, preferably SKM.
  • Ability to organize and administer multiple job functions within deadlines.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and good mechanical aptitude.

Physical Requirements:

  • Working a minimum of 40 hours/week.
  • Sitting 6 to 8 hours/day.
  • Lifting weights of 0 to 30 lbs. from floor to above shoulders.
  • Repetitive use of hands for writing, typing, data entry, and filing.
  • Vision adequate for computer use and reading.
  • Hearing adequate for phone use.
  • Standing, climbing, kneeling, reaching, bending, twisting, and walking as needed to perform site surveys to collect data for project design.
  • Balance adequate for climbing ladders, scaffolds, and lifts.
  • Environmental factors include working in: temperature extremes of 0 F to 100 F up to 8 hours inside or outside; atmospheric exposure to dust, gases, fumes, odors; and poor ventilation in confined spaces.
  • Special hazards include exposure to mechanical, electrical, chemical, and explosive hazards.
  • Personal protective equipment includes use of hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, gloves and hearing protection.
