TITLE: Assistant Principal
CLASSIFICATION: Certified, full-time administrator 220-230 (TBD) contract days
REPORTS TO: High School Principal
EVALUATED BY: High School Principal
Qualifications
  • Possession of a valid Indiana building-level administrator license
  • Three years of successful teaching experience
  • Experience with Career and Technical Education (preferred)
  • Previous experience as a Dean of Students or Assistant Principal (preferred)
  • Other qualifications as determined by the Administration.
JOB GOAL: The Assistant Principal is to aid the Principal in the planning, development, execution, and supervision of the educational program at Lowell High School. The responsibilities of this position are as follows:
Ability To
  • Build positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and community members
  • Plan, organize, and manage time and resources efficiently and effectively
  • Collaborate and communicate well with key stakeholders through a variety of methods
  • Provide instructional leadership to teachers
  • Utilize and model the use of technology and the district’s Guiding Principles
  • Manage, lead, and direct the functions and activities of a secondary school
  • Analyze problems, determine solutions, and make appropriate and effective decisions.
  • Model personal and professional ethical behavior.
Performance Responsibilities
  • Assist in the establishment of goals and objectives for the school.
  • Provide leadership in teaching techniques, innovation, and classroom management and organization.
  • Complete daily classroom walk-throughs and provide appropriate feedback to teachers.
  • Supervise and evaluate teacher performance using the district model, as assigned by the principal.
  • Assist the Principal in the process of interviewing, evaluating, and selecting new staff members.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the crisis management plan and school safety requirements.
  • Guide, supervise, and assist the Dean of Students and School Resource Officer to ensure the established student handbook and safety protocols are implemented effectively.
  • Collaborate with staff to create, implement, and support personal professional development.
  • Manage and enforce school-wide expectations with students and staff.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders regarding instructional resources.
  • Manage student supervision both during the school day as well as extra-curricular events.
  • Works with administration, faculty, and staff to align classroom procedures with school-wide expectations.
  • Confer with students, parents, and teachers regarding student-related policies.
  • Attend interdisciplinary and curricular collaborative team meetings to support instructional planning and decision-making.
  • Assist in the facilitation of the Response to Intervention and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support process including data analysis and student placement.
  • Analyze, share, and use collected data to support instruction and make decisions.
  • Attend appropriate, student-related meetings (IEP and 504 case conferences, parent/team meetings, etc)
  • Assist with facility usage and building maintenance via established systems.
  • Assist with the completion of state reports.
  • Collaborate with teachers to be sure the student management system is up-to-date about attendance, grades, discipline reporting, etc.
  • Communicate with parents, staff, and students.
  • Seek ways to foster a school climate of mutual respect between and among students and staff.
  • Provide leadership in planning, implementing and evaluating programs.
  • Provide supervision of student areas including, but not limited to, parking lots, hallways, athletic facilities, school events, etc.
  • Assist the Principal in establishing and sustaining relationships within the business community to foster understanding and solicit support for students and their families.
  • Assist with building improvement/construction project planning and follow-through
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Principal, Superintendent, or designee.
