ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The roles of the Prevention Specialist are to address the root causes of sexual violence in this community, to be Tri-County S.P.E.A.K.S.’ primary voice in the community when working toward the elimination of sexual violence, and to assist community members with finding ways they can end sexual violence. This position will be responsible for coordinating and implementing prevention programming in settings such as, but not limited to, community centers, local businesses, schools, and other anti-violence agencies.
Duties Include:
· Identify Tri-County area needs for sexual violence prevention
working within the Social Ecological Model in violence prevention
· Stay current on research-based sexual violence prevention strategies and programs
· Conduct community outreach to organizations such as, but not limited to, community organizations and/or clubs, community groups, service organizations, churches, schools, local businesses, and other anti-violence agencies in the Tri-County area
· Research effective prevention practices best-suited to community readiness and needs
· Attend trainings and professional development opportunities regarding the prevention of sexual violence
· Develop Tri-County S.P.E.A.K.S.’ evaluation plan for prevention programs
· Coordinate community-wide events with other organizations in the Tri-County area to build or strengthen community partnerships, and engage local leaders and stakeholders
· Engage in policy-based initiatives to end sexual violence
● Maintain statistical data of all prevention initiatives
● Complete grant reporting in a timely manner
● Assist in the organization of special events for the organization
● Use the agency’s website and social media platforms for prevention messaging
● Become a certified Victim Service Provider (VSP) within one year of employment
● Assist in hotline and crisis response, participate on staff on-call rotation, and respond to victim crisis/emergencies with a trauma-informed approach
● Adhere to all policies and procedures of the organization
● Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

o Creativity – When faced with a challenge or potential barrier, the applicant can brainstorm new ways to address or circumvent obstacles. Additonally, applicants can think of innovative strategies to connect sexual violence prevention to everyday experiences.
Preferred Skills
The following skills are not required, but will assist in the success of the applicant in the position:
● Preferred experience of 3-5 years with a nonprofit or social service organization, ideally serving survivors of interpersonal violence.
● Bilingual in Spanish is highly preferred.
Qualifications and Education Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
● Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in liberal arts or social science field such as (but not limited to) Public Health,Psychology, Sociology, Women’s and/or Gender Studies; experience and/or training related to community organizing or mobilization preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
● Strong writing and editing skills.
● Experience as a training instructor/group facilitator
● Friendly, enthusiastic, and positive attitude
● Adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with traumatic situations
● Knowledge of social media and other basic marketing platforms
● Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects at a time. Strong time management skills.
● Proficient use of computers and technology
● Experience preparing reports.
● Reliable transportation
