QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High School Diploma or equivalent G.E.D.
2. Experience in Grounds keeping.
3. New Jersey State Department of Labor approved fireman’s license.
4. Knowledge of maintenance of machinery in heating plant.
5. Knowledge of maintenance of machinery and equipment.
6. Knowledge of safety devices and measures used in steam heating boiler operations, including proper water levels, draft regulations and cleansing materials.
7. Knowledge of proper storing, safeguarding and usage of equipment, materials and supplies.
DUTIES:
1. Responsible for maintaining and upkeep of the grounds of the District in the highest quality manner, according to established grounds maintenance processes and procedures (cycle time, coverage schedules, equipment, etc.)
2. Participates in the performance of grounds keeping activities (mowing, weeding, trimming, clean-up, fertilizing, watering, athletic field maintenance, etc.).
3. Responsible for the safety and security of the equipment, truck and trailer.
4. Responsible for safe operation of the equipment in the field.
5. Responsible for ensuring equipment is properly maintained or receives necessary repairs.
6. Performs off-season special projects, such as leaf collection, snow removal, cleaning of down spouts, gutters and catch basins, etc.
7. Performs special request ground maintenance projects for schools.
8. Performs special projects or custodial duties during periods of inclement weather.
9. Performs duties as custodian substitute during grounds keeping off-season.
10. Analyzes low pressure, steam boiler, equipment and maintenance problems.
11. Organizes and develops effective work methods.
12. Performs general cleaning and service duties.
13. Cleans assigned classrooms, gymnasium, auditorium, office corridors, lavatories, and all other required areas.
14. Washes and cleans windows, sweeps, washes, waxes and polishes floors.
15. Cares for and maintains grounds, trims hedges, shrubbery and grass.
16. Seeds and fertilizes ground areas.
17. Cleans and removes snow from sidewalks, driveways, auto and other pedestrian areas around school building.
18. Performs such other related duties as directed by Executive Administrator of Buildings & Grounds.
SALARY: In accordance with Custodian contract.
