About Treetops Resort: 

Nestled in the heart of Northern Michigan, Treetops Resort is not just a destination; it's a legend in the golfing world. Beginning as a modest ski slope in 1954, it flourished into 81 holes across over 3,000 acres, with designs by golfing luminaries such as Robert Trent Jones Sr., Tom Fazio, and Rick Smith. Our legacy includes hosting 51 Major Champions and legends like Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus on our Threetops course, making Treetops a beacon in golf history. 

Innovations:

Our commitment to excellence is underscored by over $6 million in recent investments, enhancing the golf experience and infrastructure. This includes a $1.5 million overhaul of our Golf Pump Station and Snowmaking facilities, revitalization of the Smith Tradition Course through extensive tree removal, and a $1.6 million investment in cutting-edge Turf Equipment. The Fazio Premier's Master Plan is underway, focusing on comprehensive upgrades like irrigation enhancements, bunker and tee renovations, and strategic tree management to optimize the course's design and playability. Tree management enhancements were completed in the Fall of 2023. The successful candidate will oversee execution of the grow-in phase of areas cleared and select cut in 2023. Following successful grow in of these areas the focus will shift to bunker renovation planning and execution. 

About the Position: 

The Course Superintendent of the Fazio Premier will be at the helm of managing this prestigious course's daily operations and strategic development. Key responsibilities encompass leading a dedicated grounds team, managing the budget and financial planning, executing agronomic programs, and overseeing the course's maintenance and enhancement projects. This leadership role is pivotal in ensuring the Fazio Premier not only maintains but elevates its status as a premier golfing destination, reporting directly to the Director of Recreation Maintenance. 

Qualifications

Responsibilities: 

• Oversee the daily maintenance and conditioning of the golf course, ensuring exceptional playability and aesthetic standards. 

• Lead, train, and manage the golf course maintenance team, fostering a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement. 

• Develop and manage the annual budget for course maintenance and operations, ensuring effective resource allocation and financial efficiency. 

• Design and implement comprehensive turf management programs, including chemical and fertility plans, to maintain optimal course conditions. 

• Oversee the irrigation system's operation, including programming, maintenance, and upgrades, to ensure efficient water use and turf health. 

• Lead capital improvement projects and the execution of the Fazio Premier Master Plan, including renovations and enhancements of course features. 

• Ensure adherence to all legal, environmental, and safety regulations, maintaining a safe workplace and sustainable course practices. 

• Collaborate closely with the Director of Recreation Maintenance and other resort departments to align course management with overall property objectives. 

• Contribute to the overall guest experience by maintaining the course aligned with Treetops Resort's standards for excellence and guest satisfaction. 

• Stay abreast of industry trends and advancements in golf course management, participating in continued education and professional organizations like MiGCSA/GCSAA. 

• Other duties as required. 

Requirements: 

• At least 2-4 years of Golf Course Management experience, with a demonstrated track record of progressive responsibility, preferably as an Assistant Superintendent or higher. 

• A minimum 2-year degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management, Business Administration, or a related field. 

• Possession of a Michigan Pesticide Applicator's License, or the ability to obtain it within 90 days (about 3 months) of hire.
