Safety Manager Role Overview

Title: Safety Manager

Overview: The Safety Manager is responsible for developing and maintaining safety programs for our portfolio of companies with the primary objective of minimizing the risk of workplace accidents. The Safety Manager ensures that the right plan, goals, and initiatives are established to cultivate a culture of safety and compliance.

Reporting Structure: Reports to the Director of Support Services

Key Accountabilities:

  • Design, implement, and document safety programs for all portfolio companies
  • Oversight and standardization of driving, equipment operating, and other necessary training programs
  • Safety training research and coordination
  • Ensure companywide compliance with safety program and job-site safety requirements
  • Manage worker’s compensation, general liability, and auto insurance claims

Regular Execution:

  • Coordinate and partner with department managers and leaders for training
  • Documented pre-plan and project plan for Safety Initiatives
  • Train leadership on safety procedures
  • Develop and execute training plan for drivers and equipment operators
  • Conduct regular safety meetings and facilitate tailgate talks for all crews
  • Maintain safety records
  • Tracking property damage
  • After-action review of all safety incidents
  • Stay current with industry safety standards and best practices for compliance
  • Coordinate and partner with leadership for buy-in on new or updated safety efforts for compliance
  • Assist leadership with upholding job site safety standards*
  • Identify potential hazards and make recommendations for improvements
  • Coordinate WC data collection and entry
  • Coordinate WC initial post accident and follow up doctor visits
  • Coordinate WC post accident drug tests as well as reasonable suspicion drug tests
  • Coordinate light-duty for WC employees
  • Investigations of safety incidents
  • Collections of information associated with accidents, incidents, and injuries
  • Interviewing employees involved in accidents, incidents, and injuries
  • Collaborating with insurance agencies to collect information regarding auto claims
  • Taking and making reports of any incidents from third parties
  • Implementing improvement plans or disciplinary actions regarding safety infractions

Outputs:

  • Quarterly - Internal company review reporting
  • New Hire Orientation Safety Training – Weekly
  • Additional/Other Safety Training – As Needed
  • Status report (1-page) and 10-minute update -weekly
  • Tracking and reporting of all training, certifications, and associated renewals - As Needed
  • Tailgate Talks – Weekly
  • Conduct regular safety and jobsite audits – scheduled and unscheduled
  • Provide reports to management - As Needed
  • OSHA 300, 300A – Annual
  • Incident Reports – As Needed
  • Safety audit with insurance company – Annual
  • Detailed inspection reports

Required:

  • At least 5 years of experience in safety management, preferably in the construction industry
  • Knowledge of state and federal safety regulations
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and safety management software
