Day in the Life of a Peer Recovery Specialist Under the clinical supervision of a Supervising Counselor, the CPRS assists in developing and monitoring a recovery plan in collaboration with their patients Teaches, role models, coaches how to use resources and navigate the mental health and/or substance use disorder systems. Teaches, supports, coaches the acquisition and exercise of skills needed for management of symptoms. Encourages appropriate use of medication; holds patients accountable for their actions; teaches, models monitoring symptoms and/or medication reactions, effective communication with doctors and therapists. Teaches, models, coaches skills and attributes needed to attain and maintain employment and housing. Other duties as assigned by Program Supervisor or designee. Education and Experience requirements: A Certified Peer Recovery Specialist must be at least eighteen (18) years of age or older; have a high school diploma or General Equivalency Degree (GED); have current or past mental illness, substance abuse, or co-occurring disorder; self-identify as a person who is in recovery from mental illness, substance abuse, or co-occurring disorder as part of his or her personal recovery process; have demonstrated self-directed recovery for a minimum of 24 consecutive months; have successfully completed the state’s Certified Peer Recovery Specialist Training have successfully demonstrated competency through testing and evaluation as required by the state Certified Peer Recovery Specialist Training; completion of 75 hours of supervision preferred but not required upon hire. Hours, Schedule, and Travel (if applicable) Our Peer Recovery Specialists enjoys an early morning schedule with early afternoon out times. It is expected that Peer Recovery Specialists have flexibility to support on weekends and if applicable, evenings. Expected hours for this role are 37-40 hours per week. Local Travel is required to Highland Park, Carrick, and Bellevue. A mileage reimbursement is provided for your travel. Hybrid position after training is complete.
