Position Overview The Clinical Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for ensuring all patient testing is performed in accordance with established laboratory policies and procedures, payor requirements, as well as applicable state and federal requirements, including CLIA regulations. As part of such duties, this position would also be responsible for overseeing accurate processing, analyzing, and reporting of laboratory results in a timely manner, as well as performance of LC/MS testing, while maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following and other duties that are assigned. Supervise personnel, adjust priorities, and oversee employee schedules to ensure appropriate lab coverage at all times. Review proficiency testing results, incident reports, and oversee specimen accessioning and quality control functions. Assure appropriate training and comprehension of lab personnel for quality assurance. Ensure compliance with HIPAA, CLIA, and OSHA regulations, including maintaining confidentiality and understanding and adhering to regulatory requirements. Evaluate test volume versus supply orders to maintain adequate inventory levels. Review, revise, and communicate changes to policies and procedures to affected parties. Oversees scheduled maintenance, corrective actions, and troubleshooting to ensure result quality and performance efficiency through the maintaining of lab documentation. Carry out any assigned tasks and duties, as assigned by the Laboratory Operations Manager Qualification Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience: The Clinical Laboratory Supervisor must meet state-defined minimum licensure, education, and experience requirements. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, mean, mode and median ability to draw and interpret graphs. Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee regularly is required to stand, walk, sit, use hand to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee occasionally lifts/carries paperwork, files, office supplies, up to 50 lbs., pushes/pulls exerting up to 5-10 lbs. force, opening doors, file drawers, pushing files in drawers, and kneeling/crouching and/or ability to reach lower file drawers, file stretching to store of retrieve materials. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Frequent sitting at desk or computer while typing, completing paperwork, or meeting with patients. Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Carry out any assigned tasks and duties, as assigned by the Laboratory Operations Manager Education and/or Experience: Associates degree and at least 5 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting OR Bachelors degree and at least 3 years in a clinical laboratory setting required. Supervisory experience preferred.
