Overview

To meet growing demand, the System Protection and Automation Engineering group within the Power Sector at TRC is seeking an Automation & Integration Engineer II (Engineer) to work closely with a diverse team of high performing engineers on utility, municipal, industrial and renewable projects across the United States. Successful applicant will be responsible for:

  • adhering to internal TRC quality control and quality assurance practices
  • adhering to client standards and requirements
  • interfacing with clients, other company departments, outside consultants, contractors, suppliers, and manufacturers
  • serving as an engineering team member on assigned projects
  • working closely with leadership and senior team members to coordinate and maintain client satisfaction, product quality, project delivery schedules, and project budgets
  • designing, configuring, documenting, and commissioning integration systems and equipment
Responsibilities
  • conceptual and detailed design, specification, procurement, integration, configuration, and commissioning of electrical utility:
    • Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) Systems
    • Protective Relays
    • Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs)
    • Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs)
    • Remote Terminal Units (RTUs)
    • Communication Networks
  • design engineering and equipment delivery coordination to meet construction schedules
  • network communications capture, parsing, analysis, and troubleshooting
  • project requirement conformance reviews
  • site walk-downs and solution execution planning
  • documentation development and verification
  • review project information (budget, schedule, and client satisfaction) with leadership
  • support TRC's core values

  • promote complete and accurate documentation and be accountable for the quality of work
  • participate in professional development, training, and quality improvement
  • work with Project Engineer to evaluate equipment specifications and application of new equipment based on customer goals and industry standards
  • development and integration of custom logic and control schemes
  • support A&I aspects of multi-discipline projects
  • promote efficient flow of information and ensure complete and accurate record keeping
  • promote team environment, support team members
  • travel as needed (amount flexible)
  • provide effective technical support of department needs and requirements
  • other duties as required by leadership
Qualifications
  • Microsoft Office 365 Skills, especially Excel
  • Experience with RTU/Data Concentrators
  • Experience with IEC 61131 Programming, Automation Logic
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology or Electrical Engineering or sufficient education and experience in a related field; utility experience preferred
  • 2 or more years of automation & integration experience
  • ability to work with senior engineers to perform necessary design tasks
  • demonstrate knowledge of SCADA systems
  • experience with DNP3, Modbus, AcSELerator RTAC, SEL 5030 Quickset, GE Cimplicity, Protocol Test Software preferred
  • strong understanding of serial and Ethernet communication systems
  • IEC 61850 experience preferred
  • some travel required
  • renewables experience preferred
  • team-oriented, empathetic, professional attitude

In accordance with local law, the following compensation range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition: $80,000 - $95,000. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors.
