Job Summary

The Tax Analyst has the overall responsibility for analyzing the company’s financial data as it relates to the preparation of fuel excise tax, sales tax accruals, property tax accruals, miscellaneous transaction tax compliance and audits. Support the Senior/Manager, Indirect Tax in the areas of tax planning and research. Support Senior Tax Analysts and Tax Director on transaction tax planning, research, and audits.

Duties and Responsibilities

Tax Compliance:

  • Oversee preparation and review of sales and use tax, motor fuel tax returns and adjustments by 3rd party vendor;
  • Perform monthly Sales and Use Tax and Motor fuel tax return reconciliations and payment invoices
  • Oversight and calculation of transaction tax accruals
  • Responsible for non-income filings – property tax, business licenses
  • Monthly review of fixed asset additions for proper classification and sales/use tax
  • Review, oversight and testing of tax rates
  • Maintain and review tax compliance calendar for responsible jurisdictions
  • Create and update standard operating procedures (SOP’s)

Tax Audits:

  • Support Tax Senior/Manager on tax audits and liaise with tax auditors as needed;
  • Retrieve and review fuel and sales tax return data for audits;
  • Analyze audit issues and prepare memoranda and work papers to support the company’s tax positions.
  • Manage desk audits

Tax Research:

  • Research tax issues as they relate to transaction tax compliance, billing, audits and special projects.
  • Monitor law changes related to indirect taxes

Qualifications

  • Education experience must include a B.A. in Accounting or equivalent. CPA or advanced education Tax is preferred.
  • A minimum of two years corporate tax or public accounting experience, including a sound technical understanding of US Federal and State tax rules;
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with co-workers;
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize, meet due dates efficiently and operate in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment;
  • Experienced with tax software is preferable;
  • Proficient using MS Excel and MS Word and use of robotic process automation;
  • Must be able to uphold TA’s Values in addition to collaboration; performance excellence, sense of urgency, openness to new ideas, inclusion & diversity, integrity, customer focus, and respect.
  • Strong research and writing skills
