Job Summary

As an integral part of the TA’s enterprise accounting function, the Controls Manager will help ensure that TA’s corporate financial accounting processes and procedures are in compliance with IFRS and bp Group Accounting policies and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements.

Duties will involve a variety of corporate accounting and compliance functions related to, internal controls, delegation of authority, the site audit program, quarterly diligence reporting to bp, and other special projects and continuous improvement activities. With a growing business and continued focus on the need for the accounting function to keep pace with rapidly changing business processes and regulatory environment, TA is searching for an individual who will continue to apply the skills learned in their previous experience and assist management with enhancing daily operations.

The ideal individual is a self-starter with a solid base of knowledge and experience with technical accounting matters and internal control processes who can demonstrate the ability to grow professionally, has a strong work ethic and is eager to learn. The Controls Manager will be a detail-oriented problem solver and team player, will have strong communication skills, will have high visibility to the finance leadership team and other business partners, and will be empowered to make judgments associated with the control environment and drive action with stakeholders across various organizational functions.

This role will report to the SVP, Controller.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with IFRS and company policies and procedures, including with respect to internal controls over financial reporting
  • Act as a key controls interface across all TA operations (including information technology), proactively engaging with each area to identify internal control gaps, oversee remediation of control deficiencies, jointly defining risk mitigation requirements, supporting process changes and leading all process monitoring activities for those changes.
  • Act as liaison with internal audit teams and bp group ARC on SOX control matters and initiatives that require additional management attention and/or coordination with other functions. Implement new control procedures required to stay consistent and compliant with bp group policies.
  • Oversee the site audit program as the key day-to-day contact for third party co-source provider. Review dashboard reports and findings with field operations, loss prevention, treasury, operations accounting and other groups to develop management responses and drive accountability with stakeholders to execute action plans.
  • Perform annual or periodic internal control activities as assigned, including segregation of duties analysis, third-party vendor SOC-1 report reviews, counterparty due diligence and ad hoc controls framework reviews
  • Manage external audit processes associated with the bp group audit, subsidiary audits, and the audits of joint ventures managed by the company. Lead across the enterprise by coordinating the planning, execution, and delivery of supporting documentation to external auditors.
  • Facilitate the quarterly diligence process within TA to support management representations provided to bp group management that deliver assurance around quarterly results, ensuring all relevant requirements are met such as due diligence, fraud reporting, segregation of duties reviews, internal control deficiencies, etc.
  • Act as steward for TA’s delegation of authority (DofA) matrix, and work with stakeholders to triage interpretive questions, proposed permanent changes to sub-delegations and temporary sub-delegations. Ensure DofA guidance is followed with appropriate linkages to related systems (where applicable) and that all subjective judgments are appropriate evaluated and signed off in accordance with DofA limits.
  • Lead continuous improvement agenda for financial processes, including the delivery of process simplification, controls rationalization and stabilization opportunities.
  • Participate as an individual, or on a team basis, on special projects or ad hoc requests of various lengths and subject matter while fulfilling regular duties

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Masters a plus
  • CPA preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience, preferably including audit-related public accounting experience, with IFRS and SOX experience a plus
  • Effective oral and written communications skills.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Familiarity with integrated financial information systems, SAP and Hyperion/Oracle are a plus
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines
  • The ideal candidate will have excellent time management, analytical, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines
