Registered Nurse (RN) Infection Preventionist Responsibility Highlights include:

The individual’s primary purpose in this position is to implement, promote, and maintain an active Infection Control Program to eliminate infection risks to residents and personnel. Essential Job Functions:

• Implement, promote and maintain an active Infection Control Program through surveillance, investigative activities, consultation, education, and policy development to eliminate infection risks to residents and personnel.

• Implements monitoring/surveillance programs in an effort to identify and reduce infection hazards in the facility.

• Conducts infection control checks/audits of designated nursing units every week, noting deficiencies and corrective actions and reports findings timely to the QAPI committee.

• Inform Director of Nursing, Administrator, Medical Director and Infection Control Committee of problems and progress in preventing and controlling infections.

• Advise facility personnel of isolation policy for disease-specific precautions for residents with infection.

• Act as liaison with the local health department in reporting infectious diseases in the facility and make recommendations to the Infection Control Committee. Responsible for reporting all infections that meet reporting criteria per state regulations.

• Maintain close communication with all supervisors and nurses and verify that he/she is the primary for focal point for accumulation of information related to possible communicable disease present when a resident is admitted or infection is acquired in the facility.

• Track and review all infections acquired and nosocomial infections monthly and quarterly. • Investigate unusual epidemics, clusters of infections and/or infections due to unusual pathogens.

• Make facility rounds to verify techniques and procedures are performed in accordance with standards set by the QAPI committee according to the Infection Control Policy /Procedure Manual.

• Train facility personnel to complete Infection Surveillance Reports and supervise follow-up. Provides various training sessions as instructed.

• Assist in the development and/or implementation of infection control measures. 

Minimum Qualifications:

• Registered Nurse with good standing/current state license

• Minimum of ___2___years work experience in nursing or infection control

• CPR, AED and first aid certification required

• Possess and display a practical knowledge of clinical operations in a nursing facility

• Ability to successfully operate a computer and office/facility operations software 

* Ability to be on a rotating Weekend On-Call Schedule with flexibility in schedule

* Position is Monday through Friday, flexible schedule available
