Utility Supervisor Job Description

OVERVIEW :

The Utility Supervisor reports directly to the Maintenance Manager in fulfilling daily operations including but not limited to : the superv ision of Utility staff members and coaching employees for optimal p erformance and complying with all Company policies .

The Utility Supervisor c onduct s a walk around the premises prior to beginning the day’s activities to evaluate the operation.

This will include making documentation of items related to safety, checking p arking conditions, random inspection of buses, cleanliness of the location, office and shop conditions, and all other items related to this evaluation;

after which the operations manager shall report to the manager upon the completion of this inspection.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Demonstrates and promotes a Safety First lifestyle at the location.
  • Responsible for hiring, coaching, counseling, and issuing discipline to utility staff members through documentation and terminate employees based on observed failure t o perform the job in a safe manner and in accordance with Company and client specifications and just cause.
  • Ensures that all vehicles are fueled daily and ensures that all vehicles have daily fluid checks.
  • Ensures that fare boxes are probed, emptied daily , and in working order.
  • Oversees major detailing per client and Company specifications.
  • Ensures that all buses are washed , and the interior is cleaned nightly .
  • Responsible for nightly vehicle accountability report.
  • Oversees the staging of buses to ensure th at they are parked correctly .
  • Control of inventory , ordering cleaning supplies , and make recommendations on cleaning products .
  • Make sure that all vehicles are swept clean no sweeping on the ground at the fuel island.
  • Report any defects that are found (lights out, tire air low) .
  • Maintains an orderly work area. The work area shall be organized and clean before, during, and after the work shift. Also, responsible for shop cleanl iness.
  • Other duties as they relate to the efficient operation at the facility.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2- 3 year’s previous supervisory experience.
  • 2-3 year’s related work experience.
  • Experience dealing with the Union and w orking in the transportation industry a must.
  • Valid CDL class B with passenger and airbrake endorsements or ability to obtain a yard permit.
  • Must be able to demonstrate tact, diplomacy and possesses good judgment and discretion.
  • Must possess ability to lead and motivate employees.
  • Detail or iented, well organized, and possess effective time management skills.
  • General knowledge of Windows-based computer operating system and Microsoft office package.
  • Must be able to work as a member of the team.
  • Ability to interact professionally with internal and external customer on all levels and be able to work well with diverse groups.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours or shifts.

  • normal manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; ability to lift or handle material weighing up to 50 to 75 lbs. with out assistance;

ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, and crouch; and corrected he aring and vision to normal range; verbal communication.

  • Exposure to heavy traffic areas while performing the duties of the job.
  • Exposure to considerable amounts of dust, vehicle fumes and noise.
  • Exposure to cleaning solutions, oils, and other liquids.
  • Must be able to travel for company training, meeting or support missions.
